East Coast with Teta Tours was PURE MAGIC!!!!!!!! - My Teta Tours guides, Tapu & Dave (the driver) arrived early and patiently waited for me to check out of my hotel. Their enthusiasm and professional attitudes were evident from the start and they even asked me if I needed anything from the city centre (so they could drive me there) before we drove to the east coast! Talk about fantastic customer service!! A+! Tapu's excellent knowledge of Tongan history was superb and her story-telling about Tongan folklore had me captivated! She answered my many questions and took the time to explain the significance of all the beautiful landmarks we visited. Dave was great too - very kind, patient and drove safely and made sure we could get as close as possible for easier access. He was even kind enough to make a quick non-scheduled stop when I asked him so I could take photos of a stunning beach! I honestly didn't want this tour to end - the Tongan East coast was absolutely stunning, a true paradise with so many interesting people & places to see. And Tapu and Dave made this experience so much more memorable & wonderful. I recommend this tour + company whole-heartedly and I can't wait to come back already!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anahulu magic - Visiting and swimming in Anahulu cave. Guide gave us as much time as we wanted there which made the tour longer and better value for money.

Spectacular cave - Easy to locate the driver. A little basic transport but this in many respects, added to the charm. Lovely island for which some highlights were covered but the cave visited was excellent. Spectacular cave which we swam in and was a real highlight. Overall we enjoyed this trip.

Great way to learn about tonga - Arrived on time and took us to the trip. Needed to confirm the schedule for the day as it was not communicated properly. Rest of the day ran refine and the swim in the underground pool was amazing.

Caves were awesome - The caves alone were worth the trip. The guide and driver were nice but not overly knowledgeable on the history and communication was a little difficult. But overall worth the money.

Bat Cave - Novice guide. Very sweet, but didn’t have much to say. I don’t recommend swimming in the cave, as pictured. Not only freezing cold water; bats flying around and popping in the water make it a serious health risk.

Many areas of improvement needed. - The tour operator was Teke Tours which was not well organized on the cruise ship port. We spent 20 minutes finding the right people to check in with, which then presented problems with wait times and a “tour van” that was in despicable condition and not suitable for an island tour. I complained to the lady who was checking guests in and nothing was done about finding a replacement van until other guests were escorted to the waiting van, at which point various guests opted out until other transportation arrangements could be made. Basically, 10 people were expected to cram into a filthy broken down vehicle probably suitable for only 4-5 people, if it were road worthy at all. In the end, two additional vehicles arrived and we shared a small taxi with another couple. The problem was that our driver spoke absolutely no English and we were left without the guided commentary that we paid for, and we missed out on at least 7 stops that were on the itinerary. Not what we expected. By luck we met up with one of the other vans with an English speaking guide, so we ended up following that van to the beach and caves. Without Stella (tour guide) I am not sure how we would have made out on the tour. It could have been even more of a disaster with a driver who spoke zero English. At the end of the day, we salvaged a small portion of the tour that we were anticipating but not enough to make the cost justify the benefits. We will be requesting a partial refund as will other guests we talked to when we met up at one of the tour stops. The unfortunate circumstances are not the fault of Viator, but it behooves the owners of Viator to review the organizational capabilities, the expectations that customers expect in the quality of vehicles, and the need to ensure capable English-speaking guides. To be clear, we do not expect first class vehicles like we have at home, but the vans must be relatively clean, road worthy, and a suitable size for the expected number of guest passengers. Garry
