Family Fun on the Amber Route: A Day of Discovery in Sabana de la Mar

Join me as I take my family on an unforgettable journey through the Amber Route in Sabana de la Mar. From exploring an artisanal amber mine to splashing in the refreshing waters of Salto Yanigua, this adventure is packed with fun and discovery for all ages.

A Warm Welcome in El Valle

As soon as we arrived in the charming town of El Valle, I knew we were in for a treat. The locals greeted us with warm smiles and a steaming cup of local hot chocolate that was simply divine. My kids, who are usually picky about their drinks, couldn’t get enough of it! It was the perfect start to our day, setting the tone for a family adventure filled with discovery and delight.

We took a leisurely stroll through the town, soaking in the vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere. The kids were fascinated by the colorful houses and the lively market stalls. It was a great opportunity to teach them about the local culture and the importance of community. As a former teacher, I couldn’t resist turning this into a mini-lesson, and they were surprisingly engaged!

Discovering the Amber Mine

Our next stop was the artisanal amber mine, just a short walk from El Valle. The journey there was an adventure in itself, with lush greenery and the sounds of nature accompanying us. The kids were thrilled to see the miners at work, extracting amber in a way that seemed almost magical. It was a hands-on experience that brought the process to life for them.

We even had the chance to purchase some unique amber pieces, which made for perfect souvenirs. My daughter picked out a beautiful amber pendant, while my son chose a small piece to add to his rock collection. It was a wonderful way to bring a piece of our adventure home with us.

Splashing at Salto Yanigua

The highlight of our day was undoubtedly the visit to Salto Yanigua. Nestled amid the lush vegetation of Hato Mayor, this stunning waterfall was a sight to behold. The kids couldn’t wait to dive into the refreshing waters, and I must admit, I was just as eager!

We spent the afternoon swimming and splashing around, with the sound of the waterfall creating a soothing backdrop. For the more adventurous, there was even an option to try a local mud bath, which my husband bravely attempted. He emerged with glowing skin and a big grin, much to the amusement of the kids.

After all the excitement, we enjoyed a delicious country lunch, savoring the typical cuisine of the region. It was the perfect way to end our day, with full bellies and happy hearts. The Amber Route Tour was a fantastic family adventure, offering a perfect blend of culture, nature, and fun. I highly recommend it to any family looking to create unforgettable memories together.
