The journey begins by cruising out of the Otago Harbour, passing the world’s only mainland colony of royal albatross. Keep your camera ready as these magnificent birds glide in from the sea on their impressive three-meter wings.

A historic lighthouse stands majestically atop volcanic cliffs. The skipper will navigate the boat close to the rocks below, offering fantastic views of playful fur seals.

The boat will venture a short distance into the sea to search for other albatross and rare seabirds. On some excursions, there might be sightings of little blue penguins, sea lions, and occasionally dolphins.

The local crew will provide a comprehensive commentary on the area’s history, volcanic scenery, and wildlife observed during the cruise.

Here’s a hot tip - Don’t be discouraged by cool and windy weather. These conditions often offer the best opportunities for wildlife viewing and sea conditions. Albatross particularly enjoy a brisk southerly wind!
