- Ba Dinh Square - Situated in front of the renowned Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square is a key historical site featured in all Hanoi City Tour itineraries. It is a significant location in Vietnamese history, notably on September 2nd, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Vietnam Democratic Republic proclaimed the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the People’s Democratic Republic of Vietnam. - Temple of Literature & National University - Positioned south of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, the Temple of Literature was established in 1070 by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong as a temple dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius. It stands as one of Hanoi’s most significant monuments. In 1076, his son founded the Imperial Academy as a royal school exclusively for elite members such as princes, nobles, and bureaucrats.
The Imperial Academy, regarded as Vietnam’s first university, operated for approximately 700 years, educating numerous renowned scholars and mandarins. Despite enduring wars and disasters, the Temple of Literature has preserved its valuable architectural and cultural heritage.
- Hoa Lo Prison - Hoa Lo Prison, now known as the historic relic Hoa Lo Prison, is located at 1 Hoa Lo Street, Hanoi. Historically, this area was a village known for producing various types of casseroles and portable earthen stoves, hence the name Hoa Lo village (meaning “fire earthen stove” in Vietnamese). When the French occupied Hanoi, the village was relocated to make way for the construction of courts and prisons. As the prison was built on the land of Hoa Lo village, it became known as “Hoa Lo Prison.”
Constructed by the French in 1896, it was originally named “Central Prison.” The prison was situated on the entire land of Phu Khanh village, covering a total area of 12,908m2, including the surrounding roads leading to it.
- Old Quarter - Vietnam’s capital boasts numerous unique attractions, but its cuisine is a source of great pride. While much of this food is available in modern or upscale restaurants, the finest dishes are often found on the streets. Before exploring, it’s beneficial to identify the best street food spots in Hanoi to ensure dining at hygienic places offering quality food. For those hesitant to explore alone or eager to learn more about the city’s authentic food culture, a street food tour with a local guide is highly recommended.
- Bat Trang Ceramics Village - Located just a 20-minute drive from Hanoi’s city center, Bat Trang Ceramic Village has been crafting ceramics and pottery for over six centuries, distributing them worldwide. The villagers possess numerous techniques for managing fire and creating diverse ceramics and pottery. Bat Trang is an ancient village where locals and visitors can explore the art of ceramics in Vietnam. A half-day trip to Bat Trang, organized by Vietnam Travel, comes highly recommended.
