Exploring Vietnam’s Hidden Gems: A Day in Ninh Binh
Eager to explore the cultural and natural wonders of Vietnam, I embarked on a day tour from Hanoi to Bai Dinh Pagoda, Trang An, and Mua Cave. Join me as I recount the highlights of this unforgettable journey.
A Serene Start at Bai Dinh Pagoda
As a digital nomad who thrives on budget-friendly adventures, I was thrilled to embark on the Hanoi Day Tour to explore Bai Dinh Pagoda, Trang An, and Mua Cave. The day began with a pick-up from my cozy hostel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The drive to Ninh Binh province was a scenic one, with lush landscapes rolling by as we made our way to Bai Dinh Pagoda.
Bai Dinh Pagoda is a sprawling complex, one of the largest in Vietnam, and a testament to the country’s rich Buddhist heritage. As I wandered through the Buddha Sanctuary, I was in awe of the impressive architecture and the hundreds of statues that lined the pathways. The electric shuttle ride, though an additional cost, was a necessity given the vastness of the area. It was a peaceful start to the day, setting the tone for the adventures to come.
A Feast for the Senses
After a morning of spiritual exploration, it was time to indulge in a buffet lunch featuring local specialties. The spread was abundant, with a variety of dishes that catered to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. I couldn’t resist trying the goat meat, a local delicacy, and it did not disappoint. The meal was a delightful introduction to the flavors of Vietnamese countryside cuisine.
With our appetites satisfied, we headed to the Trang An Landscape Complex. Known as “Ha Long Bay on land,” this area is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s easy to see why. The boat ride through the cave systems was the highlight of the day. As we glided through Sang Cave, Toi Cave, and others, the natural beauty of the limestone formations left me speechless. The cool, comfortable weather added to the experience, making it a perfect afternoon on the water.
Climbing to New Heights at Mua Cave
The final stop of the day was Mua Cave, a place that promised panoramic views of the surrounding rice fields and karst peaks. The climb to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain was no small feat, with around 500 steps to conquer. But as someone who loves a good challenge, I was eager to take it on.
Reaching the summit was a rewarding experience. The view from the top was nothing short of spectacular, with the landscape stretching out as far as the eye could see. It was a moment of reflection and gratitude, a reminder of why I chose this nomadic lifestyle. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the fields below, I felt a deep sense of peace and fulfillment.
This one-day tour was a perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure. For fellow budget travelers, it’s an experience that offers incredible value and unforgettable memories. Whether you’re exploring solo or with newfound friends, the beauty of Ninh Binh is sure to leave a lasting impression.
