Acclimatization trek to Zebra Rocks (4020m) then back to Horombo Hut (3700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today is dedicated to acclimatization, a crucial step to enhance your chances of reaching the summit. After a leisurely breakfast, embark on a 4-hour trek to the Zebra Rocks (4020m), named for their unique black and white stripes. Upon returning to Horombo Hut, a warm lunch will be ready for you. Spend the afternoon relaxing and recharging for the next day’s hike.
Horombo Hut (3700m) to Kibo Hut (4700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today’s journey is long and challenging. The well-maintained trail leads past the “Last Water Point” and across the “saddle,” a nearly barren plateau connecting the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi. The goal for today is to reach Kibo Hut, typically in 5 - 6 hours. Here, enjoy an early dinner and retire early, as the night will be brief.
Kibo Hut (4700m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) & down to Horombo Hut (3700m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today marks “The Big Day” - the summit ascent. The final climb begins around midnight and is both long and demanding. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the ascent continues steadily. At sunrise, reach Gillman’s Point (5681m) on the crater rim of Kilimanjaro, where the sun begins to warm the landscape. The cold of the night will soon be forgotten, and after an additional 1 - 2 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Uhuru Peak at 5895m. Upon returning to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits, followed by a 1 - 2 hour rest before descending back to Horombo Hut.
Horombo Hut (3700m) to Marangu Gate (1860m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The final stage traverses the heath and moor zone to Mandara Hut (2700m), where a warm lunch awaits. Soon, you will pass through the tropical rainforest again, and after approximately 6 hours of trekking, you will arrive back at the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m). After bidding farewell to your mountain guides, a short transfer will take you back to your hotel in Moshi. There, you can enjoy a warm, relaxing shower and celebrate your achievement of reaching Kilimanjaro’s summit.
