The slower group will primarily walk, while the faster group will ride at a quicker pace. For those who enjoy galloping, our exclusive horseback riding tour is highly recommended. It is advised that children under 12 remain in the slower group with their guardians unless they are accustomed to riding horses. Our stables are conveniently located just a 20-minute drive from Reykjavik’s city center. This horseback riding tour offers a wonderful opportunity to explore the diverse Icelandic landscape in just 1.5-2 hours.

Experiencing a ride on the Icelandic horse is an essential activity to undertake at least once during your stay. It offers a connection to Icelandic history and provides the most genuine way to explore Iceland. The Lava tour is a favored and perfect adventure for both beginners and seasoned riders. On this tour, participants will traverse stunning landscapes, including lava fields and lush hillsides, while enjoying breathtaking mountain views. The tour lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours, or 4 hours with transfer, and includes a relaxing break with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Riding helmets, rubber boots, rain gear, or warm clothing are provided for your comfort during the ride.
- Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Age limit is 7 years old
- Weight limit is 110kg/240lbs
- Used riding gear is not allowed on the tour or near the horses
- If you arrive in your own car please be at the stables 30 minutes before your tour starts
- Due to possible harm to unborn children, pregnant women cannot ride on our tours
- All riders must be able to mount the horse by their own strength from the ground
- In our tours up to two children or youth may travel with each adult, paying full fare

A must do experience! - I am so glad we did this experience! I learned so much about the Icelandic horses and got to spend a lot of time with them. They are so beautiful and friendly. We took a two hour ride through an 8000-year-old lava field and it was incredible. This is a unique and cool way to experience the land. Our guides were kind and fun and made sure we were well cared for. The ride accommodated all experience levels. I would absolutely do this again.

Brilliant horse riding experience - My second time at Ishestar, brilliant place. The riding tour is adapted to the skill levels of the participants and the group is sometimes (not this time) split in two on this basis. Fantastic staff, they even went out of their way to let me meet the horse I had on the last visit (don't think he remembered me though, haha).

Great experience - We were a party of 9 and the pick up went very smoothly. The day was very well organised and the staff that rosé with us where very friendly and made us all feel safe. I would highly recommend Íshestar. You will not be disappointed.

The wonderful Horse treck - The staff and especially the Girls who looked after us on the ride were absolutely wonderful, they really looked after us.
They were very informative and chatted about everything and anything you wanted.
Everyone was very professional.
The horses were so sweet and knew where to go anyway 😅

Highlight of our trip to Iceland - The place is easy to find. I’m a beginner in horse riding, and the coaches provide us a lot of comfort throughout the journey. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about horses. Horses are well trained and overall very smooth and enjoyable riding. I had a great time and will definitely recommend others to join this tour.

Amazing experience for experienced rider - Was amazing for an experienced rider! I usually don't go to "touristy" horse tours, since they mostly oriented on beginners with subpar boring horses.
However, here I was offered a horse matching my skill level and he was the love horse from the first sight (very responsive and gentle, alert, but safe).
I also noticed that beginners in a group seemingly enjoyed their experience too.
Pick up/drop off option is also very convenient. Highly recommend!

Lovable, Unique Horses - A glorious day with beautiful horses and kind, helpful people. I am a first-time rider and I thoroughly enjoyed myself for the whole 2 hours. The horses are gorgeous and so sweet and friendly and the scenery is spectacular.

Lovely day tour for experienced riders - As a regular rider I was excited to find a day tour near Reykjavik that was geared for experienced riders. It was a great experience. The stables are lovely and welcoming and the staff and guides are kind. I provided my background when booking and they chose the perfect horse for me - he was happy to advance at all gates - walk, tolt and canter. The guides provided us with some treats so we could reward our horses midway and after the ride. I definitely will return and recommend.
