A Journey Back in Time on Icelandic Horseback

As a museum curator with a passion for history and a love for family-friendly adventures, I was thrilled to embark on the Icelandic Horseback Riding Tour in Hafnarfjörður. After about 15 minutes, we were given the option to choose between a standard and an advanced route. Encouraged by the guide’s assurance that the advanced route was not physically demanding, I opted for it. This choice allowed me to experience the famous tölt, a unique gait specific to Icelandic horses. The smooth and fluid motion of the tölt was unlike anything I had experienced before, and it provided a new perspective on the landscape around me.

As we continued our ride, the weather shifted, and a light rain began to fall. Far from dampening our spirits, the rain added a magical quality to the experience. As we reached the top of a hill, the rain gave way to a stunning rainbow that arched across the mountains and lava fields.
