- Gyumri - Gyumri is situated in the northwestern region of Armenia, nestled in the heart of the Shirak Valley, 126 km from Yerevan. Ethnically, it is the most vibrant city in Armenia. The local customs are deeply ingrained, and the national spirit is evident in every aspect. Strolling through the streets of old Gyumri, one can almost hear the clanging of blacksmiths’ hammers, and it seems as if a cart might emerge from a street corner with a carter offering a tour of the city. The old houses, some of which withstood the catastrophic 1988 earthquake, showcase the city’s high architectural achievements. These structures are distinguished by their architectural designs, the blend of colorful stone, and intricately crafted bas-reliefs. Gyumri has always been a hub of cultural activities.
- Black Fortress - Constructed in 1834, the Black Fortress is one of Gyumri’s renowned landmarks. The fortress is a complex of military and architectural structures. At its center stands the Alexandropol Fortress with three gates, alongside the layout of St. Alexandra Church and the southern and northern fortresses, forming the General Protection Complex of Alexandropol. Underground passages were constructed for the Black Fortress, with roads leading from the fortress to the current Mother Armenia Monument and the Red Fortress. The Black Fortress is listed among the intangible monuments of Gyumri’s history and culture.
- Harichavank Monastery - The Harichavank Monastery complex is located on the western slope of Mount Aragats, perched on a rocky promontory. According to architectural studies, the complex was established in the 7th century, with the main church built in the 13th century. In the 19th century, the complex became the summer residence of the Catholicoses. Near the main buildings is a small chapel of significant interest. It is constructed on a piece of rock that, due to an earthquake, separated from the promontory, leaving the chapel now towering over the canyon.
