Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. This tour is much different from other historical home tours in the area and made a fun afternoon for our group.
WE'VE BEEN TO MANY MANSIONS OVER THE YEARS; NEWPORT, ASHEVILLE, FLAGLER, ETC. CALHOUN IS A BEAUTIFUL STRUCTURE BUT OVERSHADOWED BY THE ACCUMULATION OF 'STUFF' (albeit very valuable "stuff". WE THINK IT DETRACTS FROM THE HANDSOME HOME IT IS. I KNOW THERE'S A STORY BEHIND EACH AND EVERY ITEM IN THE HOME BUT IT'S A LITTLE OVERWHELMING. SO LONG STORY SHORT: WE'RE GLAD WE CAME AND WOULD RECOMMEND ANY FRIENDS TO ALSO VISIT BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE LESS 'STUFF".
Our tour guide, very pretty blond, loaded with historical information was so nice! The vast amount of historical memorabilia was explained to us and the preservationist motive of the owner, who we caught a glimpse of, made this congromolation of priceless artifacts so meaningful. Thank you, well worth our time and increased knowledge!
House and history very interesting. The young lady who guided us was very informative and pleasant. The amount of antiques cluttered the story and was distracting. Would have liked to actually go into the rooms instead of just peeking from the hallway.
As a Charlestonian, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing a beautiful mansion being maintained so well. I remember when in was on the verge of being condemned and followed its renovations in the paper. We all knew it was a wonderful treasure and delighted in seeing it brought back to life! The craftsmanship and Tiffany chandeliers and all the other artifacts are so worth seeing. The history of the mansion is important and we should never allow it to be forgotten.
Loved the details given and the personal touch of the tour guides' favorite things as well. It made the tour more excited because he was excited about the different rooms and treasures. Ben was great!!!
The rooms were spectacular and the docents were very well versed in the history of the house and the designers. Nice job.
Ben, out tour guide was captivating! He shared great details and interesting history about the house and antiques!
Fascinating home museum. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Stunning collection of art and gilded age objects.
Always make room for improvement.
Our tour guide was great (5pm on Monday April 2).
The tour guide was awesome and well informed. The house was a hot mess. A person could not enjoy the beauty of the architecture because of all the junk in the house. It looked like s hoarder lived there.
From the first encounter with staff at the gift shop, to the trip through the gardens, this tour enchanted us with history and humor. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided answers to all our questions. Highly recommend this tour if you visit.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable!!! She was able to answer just about everyone's questions. After the tour, she helped me find the perfect book to assist me with writing about the home for my C of C class. It was also really a treat to be able to talk briefly with the owner!! He is such a nice man. I would love to be able to sit down with him and ask him questions about his collection. There are so many interesting pieces!!!
The tour was very interesting and the perfect length.

The home was beautiful, the collection impressively vast and interesting, but our knowledgeable, friendly and funny guide was the best part! Great afternoon we will definitely return one day!
Definitely my favorite memory of a weekend trip to Charleston. It was awesome to have a tour led by the owner himself!
An amazing look at a piece of Charleston history. Since the house is still an active residence and the family is still collecting art it is a bit cluttered but the guide tells you this before you go in. The art is amazing.
I choose this rating because I went into the tour knowing virtually nothing about the house and its history and left with a good working knowledge that helped me connect it to other locations in the city. I also want to credit our tour guide Ed who made what could have been a very overwhelming collection easy to digest. He took the time to answer any and all questions the group had, and pointed out some very interested objects that could've otherwise been missed. thank you for a great tour!
Tour guide was so informative! So much history. A must see!
I enjoyed the house and the tour. However, it was difficult to see things with the small space and the number of people trying to squeeze into one little doorway at one time. It would be better with small tour groups.

My guide was just wonderful. We loved the tour and are looking forward to taking the more in depth one soon.
This house truly made me speechless! What an amazing collection! The tour guide was also very knowledgeable about the house and the antiques inside! We will definitely be back!!
The guide was fantastic! We were blown away with the amount of things to see and the uniqueness of the contents.
