A Pre-Dawn Adventure

As a professional surfer, I’ve spent countless mornings chasing the perfect wave at sunrise, but this time, I traded my surfboard for a pair of hiking boots and a flashlight. My wife and I found ourselves in the heart of Guatemala, ready to embark on the Tikal Sunrise Tour. The day began at the crack of dawn, or rather, before it. We were picked up from the Jungle Lodge Hotel lobby at 4:00 a.m., where our guide, Marlon, greeted us with a warm smile and a pre-breakfast of bananas, cookies, and coffee. It was the perfect fuel for our early morning adventure.

Equipped with headlamps and flashlights, we set off into the darkness, the jungle around us alive with the sounds of nocturnal creatures.
