Guatemala City - Guests will be picked up from the lobby of their hotel in Guatemala City. Departure is at 7:00 am to the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala to collect other guests, as this is a shared experience. The journey will take approximately 1 hour, depending on traffic.

Chichicastenango - Reaching this remarkable town and market will take about 2 hours. Chichicastenango, or “Chichi,” boasts one of the most lively and colorful markets in the country.

Upon arrival, visitors will be captivated by the wide array of items for sale, including fruits, vegetables, jewelry, pottery, Mayan textiles, handicrafts, and traditional Mayan dishes. This market has been a significant trading hub since before the Spanish conquest.

The market operates on Thursdays and Sundays and is the ideal place to purchase souvenirs due to its diverse selection.

Iglesia de Santo Tomás - A beautiful colonial structure with white walls, full of color and activity at its base, awaits visitors. This is the Santo Tomas Church, located adjacent to Chichi’s market.

Built atop a Mayan temple in 1540, this church marks the beginning of religious syncretism. Visitors will see Catholic figures adorned in Mayan attire, as well as Catholic Masses and Mayan ceremonies. This is the only church in Guatemala where such a blend is visible. On the church steps, many people sell flowers, candles, incense, and others pray to give thanks or seek favors from the divine.

Panajachel - After exploring Chichicastenango, the journey continues to the Lake Atitlan area, stopping at the delightful Panajachel. Guests will have free time for lunch before regrouping to explore the town.

Panajachel - With its cobblestone streets and colorful buildings, Panajachel offers a unique experience that combines Mayan culture with a relaxed atmosphere. After lunch, a leisurely walk down the main street leads to the stunning lakefront, framed by the majestic San Pedro and Atitlan volcanoes, creating a postcard-perfect view.

Lake Atitlan - Begin the day with a delicious breakfast and prepare for an adventure. Guests will visit one of the towns around Lake Atitlan. The lake’s shores are home to many Mayan towns, and one of these will be visited:

• San Juan
• Santa Catarina Palopo
• San Antonio Palopo

Typically, if weather permits, the visit will be to San Juan, known for its excellent Mayan textiles and chocolate workshops. If weather conditions are unfavorable, one of the other two towns will be chosen.

Regardless of the town visited, guests will be enchanted by the traditional costumes and will gain insight into the culture and its worldview.

The choice of town depends on the lake’s weather conditions. Strong winds can create powerful currents, and the safety of guests and staff is the top priority.
