• Yuexiu Park - Situated on Yuexiu Hill, the Five Rams Statue was constructed in 1960 using over 130 granite pieces. This statue symbolizes the five rams that gave Guangzhou its nickname “City of Rams” and represents the emblem of Guangzhou: five mythical rams that carried five immortals, the city’s founders from 2000 years ago. According to legend, Guangzhou was once barren; the rams brought sheaves of rice, teaching the locals rice cultivation and ending famine, ensuring perpetual bountiful harvests. When the immortals left, the rams turned into stone.
• Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall - The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is an octagonal building funded by local and overseas Chinese in honor of Sun Yat-sen. Known as the “Father of Modern China”, Sun Yat-sen opposed the Qing dynasty and, following the 1911 revolution, ended the monarchy and established the Republic of China. Construction of the hall began in 1929 and was completed in 1931. The hall is a large octagonal structure with a 71-meter span without pillars, featuring a large stage and seating for 3,240 people.
• Chen Clan Ancestral Hall-Folk Craft Museum - The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is an academic temple built by the 72 Chen clans for their descendants’ accommodation and preparation for the imperial exams in 1894 during the Qing Dynasty. It later became the Chen Clan’s Industry College, and subsequently middle schools. It now houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a symmetrical complex consisting of 19 buildings with nine halls and six courtyards. Facing south, the complex is arranged around a north-south axis. A vast collection of southern China art pieces, such as wood carvings and pottery, is housed within the structure. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall complex exemplifies traditional Chinese architecture and decoration style, influencing cultural and architectural developments globally.
• Huaisheng Mosque - The Guangta Mosque (Huaisheng Mosque) is one of the four major mosques along Southeast China’s coast. The mosque has a rich history and is as renowned as the Crane Mosque in Yangzhou City, the Qingjing Mosque in Quanzhou City, and the Phoenix Mosque in Hangzhou City. It is believed that the Huaisheng Mosque was built by S’ad Ibn Abi Waqqas, a notable companion of the Holy Prophet, during the early Tang Dynasty (618-970). The existing structures include the Pagoda of Light, the Main Hall, the Minaret, the Stele Pavilion, the ambulatory, and the reception room, among others. The Pagoda of Light, standing 35.75 meters high, is located in front of the Main Hall and is the mosque’s most prominent building. Visitors can ascend to the top of the pagoda via a spiral staircase. The light atop the pagoda serves as a lighthouse for ships navigating at night. The Main Hall is situated at the rear of the mosque. The current Main Hall was rebuilt in 1935.
• Muslim Hero Tomb - This is the resting place of Hazrat Saad Bin Abi Waqas (R.A.), the uncle of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.), who was the first to come to China to spread the message of Islam.
• Canton Tower - The Canton Tower, officially known as the Guangzhou TV Astronomical and Sightseeing Tower, is a 604-meter (1,982 ft)-tall multipurpose observation tower. The tower was completed in 2009 and became operational on 29 September 2010 for the 2010 Asian Games. It briefly held the title of the tallest tower in the world, surpassing the CN Tower, before being overtaken by the Tokyo Skytree. It was the tallest structure in China until the Shanghai Tower was topped out on 3 August 2013, and is now the second tallest tower and the fourth-tallest freestanding structure in the world.
