Our half day tour of Grenada - The half day tour with Michelle was great. She is amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable as to all aspects of Grenada— history, culture, cuisine, geography, flora and fauna. The tour was very relaxed and Michelle went out of her way to accommodate our interests. Michelle took great care to point out the various spices, herbs and fruits growing along the roadways and explained in great detail how they were harvested and used in Grenadian cooking. We particularly enjoyed our experience with the Mona monkeys, the chocolate factory and nutmeg museum.

Botanical bonanza - Dexter was our driver and guide. His knowledge of the island and its plants was endless. Driving along country roads he would stop, point out different plants and explain their traditional medical benefits. He seemed to know everyone along the route he chose and after they gave their tour he would take over and give his version of the tour. His explanation of the nutmeg tree was especially interesting and also of the chocolate industry. Highly recommend this tour especially if you can score Dexter!

Very enjoyable that was made special by Dexter. - We loved all the extra knowledge that Dexter shared about local spices, plants etc. The tour of the chocolate factory and nutmeg factory was very informative. Whilst we did not swim at the waterfall, it was relay and we tasted different rums and nutmeg jams. The day was full of info and had great fun.

Best excursion booked during cruise! - Booked 2 excursions through the cruise line and booked this one without the cruise line and can say it was the best one out of all three. Dexter, our tour guide and driver took us to see so many landmarks, local areas and attractions while learning so much history alongside the culture and learning of the island's traits and values. Was not too rushed and was a small group (only four of us total) which made it even better. Was treated to some snacks and drinks, would definitely go back to Grenada because of this tour!

Good Tour of Grenada - After arriving outside the cruise ship terminal we were asked to wait 10 minutes for the driver. The tour begins with a drive through the rainforest where you will hear about the history, economy, and local customs. At the first stop, Grand Etang Lake, we were given time to browse the shops and information centre before moving on to the lake. The rainforest was too muddy to explore but after tipping one of the locals we got to interact with the Mona Monkey. On the scenic drive through the rainforest our guide, Dexter, explained the history of wars and slavery and the effects of the climate on the vegetation. He stopped to pick leaves from various plants for us to smell, including nutmeg. At the next stop, Jouvaye Chocolate, Dexter thoroughly explained the process of how cacao is picked, dried, and processed using various machinery into pure chocolate. At the end we got to sample 5 different types of chocolate. Down the road was a quick stop at Grenada Nutmeg Museum. One of the locals showcased the products she had for sale but there was no explanation of how the nutmeg is processed. After a southernly drive down the west coast we arrived at the last scheduled stop, Concord Falls. Here there are locals who cliff jump into the water and will aggressively demand a tip at the exit but you do not have to comply. Once back at the top of the Falls in the gift shop (best prices for souvenirs), Dexter gave us some crackers with local jam to sample as well as two shots of strong rum with nutmeg sprinkled on top. We continued back to St George’s where our tour was supposed to finish but I wanted to visit Fort Frederick for views of St George, which Dexter kindly agreed to. This was a very informative tour with many stops and our guide Dexter was happy to share his knowledge with us, especially if you show an interest.

If you like driving tours - Dexter was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable. But it’s more of a driving tour and not much else. Also, warning for anyone that books for a Saturday, the chocolate factory owners close on Saturdays due to their religion. So we couldn’t do a tour.
