Chasing Waterfalls and Chocolate Dreams in Grenada
Eager to explore Grenada’s hidden gems, I embarked on a full-day tour that promised waterfalls, chocolate, and rum. Join me as I dive into the island’s vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes.
A Splash of Adventure at Concord Falls
The day began with a refreshing dip at Concord Falls, a hidden gem nestled in the lush, spice-filled mountains of Grenada. As someone who spends a lot of time in the ocean, the cool, fresh water was a delightful change. The falls are surrounded by nutmeg trees and charming flower-filled homes, creating a picturesque setting that felt like stepping into a postcard. I couldn’t resist the call of the water, and soon found myself swimming beneath the cascading falls, feeling the invigorating rush of water on my skin. It was the perfect way to start the day, and I highly recommend bringing your swimsuit and a towel to make the most of this stop.
Sweet Indulgence at Jouvay Chocolate
Next, we made our way to the Jouvay Chocolate factory, where the air was filled with the rich aroma of cocoa. As a chocolate lover, this was a dream come true. We strolled through the cocoa fields, learning about the chocolate-making process from harvest to tasting. The highlight, of course, was sampling the delicious chocolate, which was as rich and flavorful as the island itself. I couldn’t resist picking up a few bars to take home, a sweet reminder of this delightful experience. Lunch followed at the Edgecomb Boutique Hotel, where we enjoyed authentic Grenadian cuisine with spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. It was a feast for the senses, and the perfect way to refuel for the adventures ahead.
Rum and Rainforests: A Perfect Ending
The tour continued with a visit to the River Antoine Rum Distillery, the oldest functioning water-powered distillery in the eastern Caribbean. The deep, rich scents of sugar cane and rum perfumed the air as our guide explained the traditional rum-making process, unchanged for centuries. Tasting the potent rum was an experience in itself, a fiery reminder of the island’s vibrant spirit. Our final stop was the Grand Etang Lake and rainforest, where the lush landscape offered a chance to connect with Grenada’s diverse flora and fauna. I was thrilled to spot some Mona monkeys, though one cheeky fellow seemed quite familiar with tourists, making a playful grab for my hat. As we wound our way back through Grenada’s hilly interior, I reflected on the day’s adventures, grateful for the chance to explore this beautiful island. Despite the winding roads, our driver Raleigh’s skillful navigation ensured a safe and enjoyable journey. This tour was a wonderful introduction to Grenada, and I would absolutely do it again.
