• Göreme - The Sema (Whirling dervishes ceremony) draws its inspiration from Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi (1207 - 1273) and is an integral part of the cultural, religious, and historical fabric of Konya, Turkey. It represents the various layers of a mystical journey towards enlightenment (Ascension - Mirac).

Modern science unequivocally supports the notion that rotation is a fundamental aspect of our existence. There isn’t a single entity or creature that doesn’t engage in some form of rotation. The dervish, wearing a hat (symbolizing the tombstone of the ego) and a white skirt (representing the shroud of the ego), is spiritually reborn into truth. By removing his black cloak, he progresses towards spiritual maturity through the stages of the Sema. At the beginning and during each stage of the Sema, he crosses his arms to symbolize the number one, affirming the unity of God.
