The Ultimate Cretan Day Trip: A Must for Cruisers - If you are looking for a seamless, high-end, and deeply authentic way to experience Crete, look no further than SunSud Tours. This was, without a doubt, the perfect day trip for cruisers; the logistics were handled with total precision, allowing us to maximize every minute of our time on shore without any of the typical port-day stress. From the moment we were met at the cruise port by our guide, Dimitris, we knew we were in excellent hands. He picked us up in a spacious, spotless Mercedes van and immediately impressed us with his friendly demeanor and wealth of local knowledge. What truly set this tour apart was Dimitris’s expert ability to pivot and manage the clock. When we arrived at Knossos and saw the staggering morning lines, he suggested a brilliant change of pace to avoid the crowds. Instead of waiting, we headed to the Pottery Workshop of Nikos Ploumakis. Watching the master potter, Nikos, expertly throw a decanter on the wheel was a mesmerizing and intimate cultural highlight. Our journey continued to the Agarathos Monastery, a breathtakingly peaceful sanctuary filled with vibrant flowering plants and trees—a perfect moment of serenity. We then visited Kleanthi Olive Farm for a fascinating tour of the groves and the press. The visit concluded with a delicious lunch featuring various olive oils, fresh bread, fruit, local cheese, and some truly insanely good preserved figs. By the time we returned to Knossos in the afternoon, the crowds had vanished. We were able to experience the ancient site in peace, exactly as it should be seen, before an easy return to the ship. Dimitris was incredibly easy-going and never pressed us for time; his genuine priority was ensuring we experienced the natural beauty and spirit of Crete. This was a masterclass in private touring.

Awesome day, exceeded our expectations!! - George was a great guide. He let us plan out our day to what we wanted to see after he gave us several options. He was very knowledgeable about the locations we chose and made sure we got the best possible views during our excursion. Super friendly and very accommodating! I recommend this 6 hour day with him, you won’t regret it. Ron USA, Kentucky

This is a MUST DO item in Heraklion - The best way to experience Heraklion/Knossos. We had a private tour at Knossos. Then, we went to a FANTASTIC olive oil mill and tasted some out-of-this-world olive oil. Lastly, we went to a quaint vineyard with a fantastic view and had some delicious wine. What a great day. And, our driver, Dimitris, was the PERFECT host/driver.

Awesome day - Demetris was very accommodating, knowledgeable and flexible. He tailored the day to meet our time schedule and made excellent suggestions for our day. Knossos was beautiful and would have been very interesting except that the local guide we hired did not meet our needs. Travelers should know to be careful of the local they hire and might be happier using the guided iPad tour. The winery and the olive mill he suggested were fabulous. He then took us to the most beautiful traditional little Greek village that was beyond amazing. Viator never disappoints.

Be aware that George may not be your guide - After reading excellent reviews about George with SunSud tours, we booked the 6 hour private tour months in advance for our shore excursion. Despite several confirmations that our tour was directly with George (as was our request prior to confirming the booking), we were informed the night before that Dimitris would be our guide and that we could cancel if we didn't want to accept the change. With no time to make alternate arrangements we accepted the change, to our disappointment. The energy, information, communication and guide skills that we read about with George were not translated the same with the alternate assigned guide - though Dimitris is a lovely person. I do not know if he is a licensed guide or has the same level of experience guiding as George, but all I can tell you is that the experience we had was nowhere compared to the reviews that others have had with George directly. So I would caution you about booking with this company based on the reviews you read concerning George as the guide. George is the manager of the bookings and even if you think/are told you are booking with George, you are really booking with SunSud as a group and may be assigned any person. Also note, this is a guide-driver arrangement which means the guide is driving the vehicle and when talking, you will not be able to hear well as you will be sitting behind the driver as he is talking. Anyone not sitting directly in the first seat bench behind the driver will not hear anything. There was no microphone or headsets. As for the itinerary, I can recommend the stops at the monastery (our highlight), the olive production facility but skip the village of Arolithos as this is a hotel with a few rooms set up to view (though we had no explanation of what we were looking at). It felt very staged to us. Knossos is worth a visit but the guides out front are hit and miss and the ipad rental doesn't open until 10am - so we downloaded the app to get a little more background. Plan in advance as the guide-drivers are not allowed to guide inside Knossos.
