Our guide met us at our... - Our guide met us at our flat and we grabbed the train to Windsor. She made it a great day, seeing all of Windsor Castle and shopped the fun town. Christmas lights were awesome and we finished the day enjoying Afternoon Tea at Sir Christopher Wren Hotel on the river.

Day at Windsor Castle - Loved touring Windsor Castle. Our tour guide, JJ Hazan, booked us a lovely lunch at The Ivy which we enjoyed. He was very helpful in navigating the best times to arrive at the castle & knew what to see when. We even got to catch a changing of the guard.

Seeing Windsor itself as well as the chapel. A dream come true - A fantastic tour to Windsor castle. Our guide Ana Maria was excellent, compassionate and very bubbly. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and saw all there was to see. Highly recommended tour and guide.

Expensive disappointment - We are experienced travelers and could have made our way out to Windsor on our own and bought tickets for the castle, but splurged on this private tour so we could have an interesting and stress free day with someone else making all the arrangements and engaging us with an interesting tour. At $550 a person it's quite a splurge. What a horrible disappointment. Communicating with Tom, our guide, by email, we told him we'd be coming to Paddington station by underground . While we were very capable at using the underground, Tom didn't explain that we'd need to make our way from the underground station to the national rail station. It's a huge station! Normally on a private tour the guide is holding a sign with your name on it and greeting you. Instead, it's our responsibility to find him! It was quite a fiasco locating him and he seemed annoyed we hadn't found him sooner---off to a bad start. The train was delayed so it took quite a while to get out to Windsor. On the train, Tom is asking about things we could possibly do if we went back to London after Windsor castle --it was apparent he was "flying by the seat of his pants" and hadn't planned out our day. Once we got to the castle we had tickets for entry with an audio guide . Tom didn't seem that familiar with the process and didn't offer basic things like a bathroom stop. We started our audio tour and Tom went off on his own with his audio guide. At the end of the chapel tour we waited but didn't see Tom. After a full 10 minutes we finally went outside to look for him and then waited more when he didn't come . Once we realized we'd lost him we went on to the royal apartments but couldn't get in because Tom had the tickets on his phone! We talked our way in as far as the restroom and I emailed Tom that we needed tickets. I finally get a phone call from Tom who seemed surprised that we needed tickets meta to continue !! This is the private guide we paid $1100 for??!! So far we've mainly experienced stress of looking for our guide!!! After the royal apartments we found Tom and concluded . We wandered through the town--which we would have happily done on our own--and finally asked if we could do lunch stop. It seems he hadn't thought about that . After lunch we took a rather long walk to see the outside of Eaton College--Tom always forging ahead a good half block ahead of us! There was nothing to see there and it was obviously a time killer. No engaging narrative or stories as one usually gets from a good guide . We walked back to the train station and returned to London. For that money we could have purchased entry tickets , hired a private driver and enjoyed some time in Windsor--and still had money left! Every reason that one would hire a private guide was not provided. It was a giant expensive mistake!!! I should say that the day before we had booked a tour of the British Museum and had a guide from the same company, City unscripted, and she was fabulous!! As experienced travelers we know and appreciate good guides . On a $1000+ private tour one would expect the best experience --instead, the day was only made worse and all we could think about was the huge amount of money we had wasted.
