A royal palace in the borough of Richmond upon Thames, Hampton Court Palace was constructed in 1515 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, a favored advisor to King Henry VIII. Once the most influential figure in the English court, second only to the King, Cardinal Wolsey fell from grace after failing to secure an annulment of Henry’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon, allowing him to marry Anne Boleyn. Following Wolsey’s death in 1530, Henry VIII took possession of Hampton Court, transforming it into a hotel, theatre, and vast private playground to showcase his immense wealth. - Hampton Court Palace - Upon arrival at Hampton Court Palace, visitors are warmly welcomed and introduced by a guide in period costume.
