- The National Gallery - Join in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery. The entire collection has been rehung, with 400 additional paintings now on display. This guided tour provides a unique opportunity to explore works by pioneering artists such as Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Paul Cézanne. Their art, once considered highly controversial, represented a significant departure from traditional styles.
These artists didn’t create new ways of portraying light, form, and subject matter without first re-examining the art of the past. The tour will discuss how the works of J.M.W. Turner, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and other Old Masters influenced future artists, highlighting the significance of 17th-century Dutch art. Participants will also have the chance to admire some of the gallery’s masterpieces, including works by Holbein, Michelangelo, Canaletto, and Moroni.
Curious about women artists? Although only four pieces by female painters are currently on display, the tour will delve into their history. This experience is open to all ages, and no prior knowledge of art history is necessary. Feel free to ask questions and get inspired—this will be an art journey like no other.
