Additional Information

Join us on a journey through a millennium of history, where you’ll encounter monarchs, resurrectionists, Charles Dickens, a ghost from the 1700s, and William Wallace, more famously known as Braveheart (and discover why he was hardly in the position to yell ‘Freeeedoooommmm!’ at his execution!)

During our guided walk, we’ll explore the districts around Smithfield, which for hundreds of years was London’s hub of both human and animal butchery. We’ll discover how the metropolis dealt with the mass disposal of Black Death victims in the 1300s, delve into the execution techniques of the Medieval times, and learn how this neighborhood evolved into a notorious ghetto that inspired Dickens’s Oliver Twist.

Our walking expedition starts outside Barbican Station, concludes close to Farringdon Station, and will span approximately two hours. The total route is nearly two miles long.

To ensure an optimal experience for all participants, ticket sales will be restricted to roughly ten people.

Fantastic walking tour of London - Excellent tour. If you love history, this is a great tour to go on. Tom was very enthusiastic and knowledgable. We both learnt so much and it was great exploring parts of London that we would normally never go to.

A wonderful and informative two hours packed with facts about Londons history. - I was born, raised and spent my working life in London but now live in the north of England. The history of London is something I find fascinating and now I have the time I love to visit the capital and learn more about the history, this is why I joined a tour and this was my first guided walk. Tom was brilliant, friendly, a clear speaker, informative and very knowledgeable. He has clearly researched his walks thoroughly and was able to answer all questions from his audience. I would certainly join another of Toms tours and would recommend anyone who is interested in learning more about London’s history to do the same. Two hours well spent. Thank you Tom.

Super fun and great information even for the non history nerds - Started meeting our tour guide Tom outside of the tube station he was very friendly and easy to spot. We started the tour we had about 11 people in the tour so we were able to move and ask questions with ease. It was about two hours but the time flew by. We learned so much about London and beyond. Was definitely worth it.

A great look at the darker side of historic London - What a fascinating tour. Tom took us to places we had never seen, and helped us to see completely new side to places we thought we knew. His commentary was really interesting and enlightening - he clearly knows his stuff and his enthusiasm for the darker side of London history was genuinely infectious. We'll definitely go for another tour soon.
