- No. 1 Royal Crescent - The Royal Crescent is a collection of 30 terraced houses in Bath, England, elegantly arranged in a sweeping crescent. This Grade I listed building was designed by architect John Wood, the Younger, and constructed between 1767 and 1774. It stands as one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the UK. While the interiors have undergone significant changes over the years, the Georgian stone facade has remained largely unchanged since its creation. The 500-foot-long crescent boasts 114 Ionic columns on the first floor and a Palladian-style entablature above. With its views over the parkland opposite, it was the first crescent of terraced homes to be built and exemplifies “rus in urbe.” Over its 240-year history, many notable individuals have lived or stayed in the Royal Crescent, with some commemorated by special plaques on the buildings.
- Bath Abbey - Gracefully situated on the banks of the River Avon, the enchanting city of Bath was the first in England to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in its entirety. Founded in the 7th century, Bath Abbey is a former Benedictine monastery located in Bath, Somerset, England. It is one of the most remarkable examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the British Isles. The medieval abbey church has occasionally served as a bishop’s cathedral.
- Pulteney Bridge - The beautiful city of Bath was the first in England to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nestled on the banks of the scenic River Avon, explore all the city has to offer, including the magnificent 15th-century Bath Abbey, the stunning Georgian architecture, and the romantic Pulteney Bridge, modeled after Florence’s Ponte Vecchio.
- The Roman Baths - The Roman Baths and Pump Rooms are a must-visit when exploring the city named after them. This stunning and well-preserved bathing complex still flows with water from Britain’s only hot spring. Witness the enchanting torch-lighting ceremony as dusk falls (not applicable in summer) and sample Bath’s healing waters in the Pump Room, a beautiful neo-classical salon.
- Stonehenge - The enigmatic Stonehenge remains a mystery, and its true purpose may never be fully understood. Was the stone circle a temple for sun worship, a place for healing, a massive calendar, or a sacred burial site? Marvel at its beauty and ponder how our ancestors transported and erected these colossal stones. Enveloped in mystery and magic, Stonehenge continues to captivate and impress.
