During this hike we will discover different viewpoints from which we can contemplate different parts of the park and its surroundings.
Half-way up our climb, we discover the “Mare aux Joncs Gorge” that we like to call the “Bats Valley” because of the thousands of Mauritan Fruit-Bats we can observe there.
On top of our ascension, at 400m above sea level we get an amazing sight on the West-Coast, its lagoons and beautiful villages amountains. From there, we start our back back down until the black-river where we can stop to enjoy a nice swim before continuing and reach back our starting point, where we’ve met a few hours earlier.

The Black River Gorges National Park spans 67.54 km² of untouched, wild nature. It is the heart of Mauritius Island, home to numerous endemic animal and plant species.

During this hike, participants will encounter various viewpoints offering stunning vistas of the park and its surroundings.
Midway through the climb, hikers will come across the “Mare aux Joncs Gorge,” affectionately known as “Bats Valley” due to the thousands of Mauritian Fruit Bats that can be observed there.
At the peak of the ascent, 400 meters above sea level, there is a breathtaking view of the West Coast, its lagoons, and charming villages nestled among the mountains. From this point, the descent begins, leading back to the river where a refreshing swim can be enjoyed before heading to the park’s parking area.
