The Grand Tour is wonderful and allows access to the entire mansion. You learn not only about the property's history, but also about Charleston in the era. The house itself is beautiful - with incredible woodwork in every room. It is full of art, furniture and other items that are remarkable; a rare collection to be appreciated. This is a very fun tour! My friend Courtney and I took a private tour this morning and was able to tour with the owner! What an honor to meet and spend so much time with him! An absolute gentleman with such a passion for this home and everything in it!As a true lover of Victorian history I felt like I was in a dream! To see so many beautiful things in one place was an opportunity you seldom get to enjoy! Charleston should be honored and grateful for someone to come in and save one of it's most treasured gems! Will go back over and over! The owner made us feel like we were at home! The owner made us feel like we were at home! We left there feeling like we owed a whole lot more than we paid! Thank you Mr.Stahl for sharing your beautiful home!
This was my 4th Grand Tour, and I've loved each and every one. Having the owner of the home as our tour guide was a rare and wonderful experience. I was able to learn new things about the house and its history, and I loved hearing about the recently acquired pieces. The array of beautiful antiques, rare pieces and oddities are a delight to see and hear about. This is a tour without compare and an opportunity to see not only a wonderful historic home, but also collection of art and artistic pieces you will not find elsewhere. This is a simply amazing tour with each one being different. I look forward to going again next year.
My name is Lori Bobo and I am a concierge at the Wentworth Mansion. I am writing on behalf of our guests, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis. Mr. Lewis raved this morning about how much he enjoyed yesterday's tour. Thank you so much for your special attention to every detail- the guests thoroughly appreciated your time and enjoyed their visit to Calhoun Mansion. We will certainly recommend many times again!
Fascinating history of home, its owners and construction as well as the many artistic treasures inside. Having Howard as the guide added depth and interest overall. ..would recommend highly. Howard 's love of the beauty in art was so refreshing in a society which has little or no appreciation for such things.
Amazing tour. The art collection has to be seen to be believed. Totally worth the $75.00 for a private tour. Our guide , Howard, made the place come alive!
Howard did a great job of taking us through his home on the Grand Tour. Thank you.
It was a wonderful experience having a tour from someone who is so passionate and knowledgeable about his collection. It was a wonderful adventure that my husband and I will never forget.
Best house tour my husband and I have ever been on!
House itself and its bizarrely overcrowded collection were highly interesting, even fascinating, but the young lady doing the tour talked so fast it was hard to understand and comprehend all she was saying.
This tour far exceeded our expectations.
My crew and I returned for the hours tour and couldn’t have been more satisfied. A real treat to be able to see the exceptional collection in an enhanced and thorough tour. Freddie remains the consummate host/guide/manager and allowed us to experience this treasure trove of a house in an informative and professional way. Definitely the highlight of our most recent trip to Charleston and a must for historians, decorators or the the plain curious! Thank you again, Sean, Kathy and Tony
Great to get a tour of the whole Mansion. Guide is extremely knowledgeable of the antiques in the home. The home is very interesting to tour.
Freddie our guide was fantastic! so well informed and so warm and friendly
You get to see more areas of the house, and Frankie was able to tailor his presentation to the things that interested us most.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the home, history, and the pieces that decorated the home. He was very attentive to our questions and offered additional information. I will definitely recommend this tour to all my friends and family.
My friend and I were lucky enough to have a private tour. Frankie was an excellent tour guide and we were able to see many more rooms and areas on this tour. Probably the best Mansion tour I've done in years. To add to the experience, every room was so interesting and filled with so much history. Thank you.
The Calhoun mansion grand tour was worth every penny. You get to see MANY areas that the normal tour does not even touch upon. Every inch of the house has history from almost every part of the world and different era's. From the Ming Dynasty to early American history. Got to see 3rd floor, attic living quarters and up to the open area on the roof. The view of Charleston from that height was spectacular.

We did the private tour. Frankie is an excellent docent and provided a very informative tour describing the many antiques and artifacts acquired by the current owner, as well as giving a history of the house. We were able to see the public and private rooms, and the cupola which provides a breathtaking view of Charleston and the harbor. Highly recommend this tour if you love and appreciate antiques and old houses. You won't be disappointed. There is so much to see. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful, historic home.
Beautiful house and amazing collection of antiques. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.
We got to see just about every single part of the home. We got up close to all of the beautiful antiques. Our guide was absolutely wonderful and he knew everything about every item. He had a great sense of humor and not only was the tour very educational but also a lot of fun! I would take the private tour again just to see all the items I know I missed the first time through!!
This is the second time I have taken out-of-town guests on this tour. There is always something new to see. It's impossible to take in all the beauty and splendor of this gorgeous home in just one or two visits. The collections are awesome and so unique. Our tour guide is very knowledgeable and personable. You can tell he loves his job. I plan to go many more times.
Most amazing experience. The historical preservation from the inside out of both items and structures was Remarkable. And the one on one experience of the tour was awesome.
I am so sorry I don't remember our host's name... he was excellent.. good stories. I wish we had asked him what his favorite stories were in each room... regarding the antiques or the house itself. But, I am guessing he gave us the best stories. We love history! Yes, we will recommend to others. Absolutely loved it.
The mansion was amazing. The art and objects of art were beautiful and a delight. The docent was knowledgeable and the generosity of the owners to let us see all of the house was greatly appreciated.
The gentleman that gave us the tour was very pleasant, engaging and informative. He took the time to answer all of our questions and allow us to enjoy each room. Thank you so much
This was my third tour and I saw new things to enjoy. Frankie does the best job imaginable making the house come to life. I would suggest everyone should come to the Grand Tour as it is the best.
We saw the Calhoun Mansion last year on a public tour. I just became aware of the Grand Tour last week when I was looking up information for some friends of ours who were going to accompany us on our trip to Charleston this year. Our friends decided they, too, wanted to do the Grand Tour with us even though they thought it was a bit pricey. They changed their minds after the tour and said it was worth every penny and more. It was an amazing experience, which we will do again when we are in town next year with our adult children. Frankie is very knowledgeable and obviously loves his job, which I would love to have when he retires. You cannot possibly absorb all of the many interesting details regarding the many one of a kind items located in the residence otherwise. There were so many amazing pieces I cannot possibly decide which one was my favorite. How fortunate that the current owner is so generous as to share his acquisitions with us all. BTW, don't miss the view from the cupola. There is not a better view in all of Charleston.
The mansion was magnificent. We loved seeing it. Unfortunately we paid for the grand tour, received an email confirmation, and showed up at 9:45 as requested But when we got there there was no tour guide We did get to see the mansion but we didn't get the grand tour I'm sure it would've been wonderful The mansion is a must see I do hope you will be prompted issuing our refund.
The intimacy of the tour. We were able to inderstand and view so much more.
