La Laguna de Apoyo - Apoyo Lagoon is a nature reserve situated between the Masaya and Granada departments. It is the deepest geological point in Central America, with its last volcanic eruption occurring 20,000 years ago. The sparkling, deep-blue Crater Lagoon, with its slightly salty water, invites swimming, diving, sailing, or paddling. It is one of the cleanest lakes in the region, offering a safe swimming experience with no hidden dangers beneath the surface. The water temperature, ranging from 25 to 28 degrees, is perfect for a refreshing swim at any time, especially on cooler days.

Masaya Volcano - The Masaya Volcano National Park spans 54 km2 and includes two volcanoes and five craters. Historically, these volcanoes have erupted multiple times, instilling fear in both indigenous people and Spanish conquerors. The Spanish named the active volcano “La Boca Del Infierno” or “The Mouth of Hell” and placed a cross, “La Cruz de Bobadilla” (after Father Francisco Bobadilla), on the crater’s edge in the 16th century to ward off evil. The eruptions have significantly impacted the landscape, with rocks and volcanic ash still covering the area. Despite its ruggedness, the nature is serene, with new vegetation emerging post-eruption. The park is home to wildlife such as coyotes, raccoons, opossums, deer, iguanas, and monkeys.
Visitors will spend no more than 20 minutes at the lookout due to the risk of volcanic gas explosions, providing a chance to peer into the crater and witness the brightness of the lava from a recent eruption.
