Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - Upon your arrival at Kigali Airport, your driver and guide will greet you and drive you to the Rwanda-Congo (DRC) border at Grande Barriére, La Corniche. We will assist you with customs formalities and crossing the border into the Democratic Republic of Congo. From there, proceed to Goma or Virunga National Park. You will spend the night at a comfortable lodge in Virunga Park.

GORILLA TRACKING IN VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - After an early breakfast, depart for Parc National des Virunga and head to the starting point of your gorilla tracking adventure. After completing park formalities, embark on the once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. These magnificent primates are extremely rare, with fewer than 700 remaining. You will get within meters of the gorilla family and have the opportunity to spend an hour with them. Return to your hotel or lodge for the night.

MOUNT NYIRAGONGO VOLCANO HIKE

Mount Nyiragongo - The day begins with an early breakfast, marking the start of your real adventure. Spend the day hiking Nyiragongo, an active volcano. The trek includes walking through lush forests and lava fields, with a steep ascent near the summit. The hike also involves an overnight stay at the Nyiragongo Crater Cabanas on the volcano’s rim. Enjoy stunning views in both sunlight and moonlight, making this an unforgettable experience. Prepare to spend the night in tents at the rim of the giant crater, high above the active lava lake.

Things to bring on the Nyiragongo hike – sleeping bag, dry change of clothes, rain gear, good walking shoes, warm clothes (sweater, jacket) for the cold rim, sun cream, warm hat, torch, camera, and personal toiletries. Remember to carry a packed lunch for this day.

MOUNT NYIRAGONGO DESCEND AND DEPARTURE

Mount Nyiragongo - After breakfast, begin your descent at 0700 hours, arriving back at the trail’s start before lunch. Continue to the city of Goma for lunch. Afterward, you will be transferred back to Rwanda and then to Kigali Airport for your departure.
