Assistance will be provided to complete customs formalities and cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo. Continue to Goma or Virunga National Park, where you will enjoy an overnight stay at a comfortable lodge in Virunga Park.

GORILLA TRACKING IN VIRUNGA NATIONAL PARK

Virunga National Park - Mount Nyiragongo & Mountain Gorilla Treks - Following an early breakfast, head to Parc National des Virunga for the start of your gorilla tracking adventure. After completing park formalities, embark on the extraordinary experience of tracking mountain gorillas. These magnificent primates are incredibly rare, with fewer than 700 remaining. You will have the chance to get within meters of the gorilla family and spend an hour observing them. Return to your hotel or lodge for the night.

MOUNT NYIRAGONGO VOLCANO HIKE

Mount Nyiragongo - Begin the day with an early breakfast, marking the start of an exciting adventure. Spend the day hiking Nyiragongo, an active volcano. The trek includes traversing lush forests and lava fields, with a steep climb near the summit. An overnight stay at the Nyiragongo Crater Cabanas on the volcano rim offers breathtaking views both day and night. Prepare to spend the night in tents at the crater’s edge, overlooking the active lava lake.

Essentials for the Nyiragongo hike – sleeping bag, dry clothes, rain gear, sturdy walking shoes, warm clothing (sweater, jacket) for the chilly rim, sun cream, warm hat, torch, camera, and personal toiletries. Remember to bring a packed lunch for the day.

MOUNT NYIRAGONGO DESCENT AND DEPARTURE

Mount Nyiragongo - After breakfast, begin the descent at 0700 hours, reaching the trail’s start before lunch. Proceed to Goma for lunch, then transfer back to Rwanda and onward to Kigali Airport for departure.
