• National Wallace Monument - A 10-minute drive takes you to the Wallace Monument, descending the long steep hill from the Castle, passing through the old town and then past Old Stirling Bridge. The Bridge, built in the 1400s, replaced a series of timber bridges. In 1297, William Wallace defeated Edward I’s forces at The Battle of Stirling Bridge. Today, the bridge is one of Scotland’s finest medieval masonry arch bridges. The Wallace Monument stands 220 feet high atop Abbey Craig hill, overlooking the fields where Wallace led his troops to victory. There are 276 steps to the top, but the climb is well worth it.
