The temple’s pillar, mistakenly named by the Crusaders as Pompey’s Pillar, was believed to have held Pompey’s head after his assassination by King Ptolemy XIII’s guards during his conflict with Julius Caesar.

Kayetbai - Continue to Qaitbay Castle, built by Mamluk Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay in 1456 AD as a defensive fortress against potential sea invasions, such as those by the Ottomans. The castle later fell into French and British hands and was constructed on the original site of the lighthouse. Enjoy lunch at a pleasant restaurant.
