Explore the Great Pyramid of King Cheops and the Middle Pyramid of King Chephren. There is also an opportunity to enter any of the pyramids, which requires additional tickets that can be purchased on-site with assistance from your guide. • Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The only fully preserved portrait of the king is a three-inch high ivory figurine discovered in a temple ruin from a later period at Abydos in 1903. All other reliefs and statues were found in fragments, and many of Khufu’s buildings are lost. Information about Khufu is derived from inscriptions in his necropolis at Giza and later documents, such as the Westcar Papyrus from the 13th dynasty.
• Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple contained several statues of Khafre, some of which were found in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860. Additional statues were discovered during subsequent excavations by Sieglin (1909–10), Junker, and Reisner.
• Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex features a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple originally housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple. The mortuary temple also revealed several statues of Menkaure.
