The Giza pyramid complex features the Great Pyramid (also known as the Pyramid of Cheops or Khufu, built around 2580 – 2560 BC), the slightly smaller Pyramid of Khafre (or Chephren) located a few hundred meters to the southwest, and the more modest Pyramid of Menkaure (or Mykerinos) situated a few hundred meters further southwest.
• Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The complex of Khufu’s pyramid includes a valley temple, which is currently buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Although diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was originally linked to a causeway, which was mostly destroyed during the village’s construction.
• Khafre’s Pyramid - The pyramid complex of Khafre comprises a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple revealed several statues of Khafre, with many discovered in a well on the temple floor by Mariette in 1860.
• Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
• Great Sphinx - The Sphinx dates back to the reign of King Khafre. In the New Kingdom, Amenhotep II dedicated a new temple to Hauron-Haremakhet, which was expanded by subsequent rulers. After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
