- Pyramids of Giza - Meet the professional tour guide in the hotel lobby, holding a sign with your name, to begin one of the best Cairo tours to the Pyramids of Giza. This is the most significant attraction in Cairo tours and is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Great Pyramid dates back to the Old Kingdom (2580-2560 B.C.).
The Great Pyramid of King Cheops, also known as Khufu, is the oldest and largest on the Giza Plateau. It is the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built during the Old Kingdom’s 4th dynasty. It stands approximately 147 meters high.
Next, visit the Pyramid of Khafre, also known as King Chephren, the son of Khufu and owner of the second pyramid. He ruled Egypt for 26 years. The Chephren Pyramid is the second tallest and second largest of the ancient Egyptian pyramids, constructed in 2570 B.C. His burial chamber was discovered in 1818 A.D. by Italian archaeologist Giovanni Belzoni.
Then, visit the Pyramid of Menkaure, the smallest of the three pyramids, constructed in 2510 B.C. during the 4th dynasty of the Old Kingdom. It was built with limestone and red granite. The exact date of construction is unknown, as Menkaure’s reign has not been precisely defined, but it was likely completed in the 26th century B.C.
The last important stop is the Great Sphinx, built by the owner of the second pyramid, Chephren, to serve as a guardian (Great Sphinx of Giza). It is a limestone statue, a mythical creature with the body of a lion and a human head. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent Pharaoh Khafra.
Note: Other activities are available, such as camel rides, entering one of the pyramids, or visiting the Solar Boat Museum. These activities incur additional costs, and the tour guide will assist if interested.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Sakkara is a vast ancient burial ground in Egypt, serving as the necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Here, see the first step pyramid, constructed in 2670 B.C. during the Old Kingdom’s 3rd dynasty. It was built by the architect Imhotep, who was also the doctor of King Zoser. This is the oldest complete stone building complex known in history: the Step Pyramid. Also, see some tombs, such as the Tomb of Idut, daughter of King Teti, the first king of the 6th dynasty, with walls decorated with beautiful inscriptions depicting scenes of everyday life, including fishing, farming, hunting, and tax payment.
Memphis is the oldest capital in Egypt, founded by Pharaoh Menes. It was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom and remained an important city, occupying a strategic position at the mouth of the Nile Delta. Memphis was home to many kings. See the huge statues of Ramses the Great (Sleeping Statue), weighing about 120 tons of limestone. Also, see the second Sphinx in Egypt, weighing about 120 tons of alabaster, along with many other statues.
Shopping tour: During the Cairo day trip, visit the Papyrus Museum, where a local guide will explain everything about papyrus, which played an important role for the ancient Egyptians. See beautiful paintings related to Egyptian history, such as the Final Judgment, the oldest calendar, and the Tree of Life.
Next, visit the Bedouin family at the Perfume Palace to see many aromatic substances that were essential for the afterlife. In ancient Egyptian mythology, the lotus flower essence was believed to aid in resurrection, and the ancient cosmetic papyrus is filled with mentions of many types of essences like jasmine, rose, cardamom, and almond. In addition to these, they have medicinal essences. Then, choose between two options: Flower Cotton, where you can see high-quality Egyptian cotton, home to thousands of handmade products and gifts, or the Bazaar, where you can find small pieces of statues made of alabaster, small sphinxes, silver, and gold. The tour guide will accommodate your preferences.
At the end of the sightseeing tour, you will be driven back to your hotel.
