Luxor’s East & West Temples
Karnak Open Air Museum - After breakfast at the hotel, embark on an adventure through Luxor’s top attractions, starting with Karnak Temple, a complex of temples dedicated to Amun Ra, the chief god in Egyptian mythology. Enjoy the Great Hypostyle Court and the reliefs and murals added over generations. Be amazed by the tall obelisks, 70 feet high and carved from a single piece of granite. Observe the statues of various pharaohs demonstrating their loyalty to RA. Notice the magnificent tall columns with papyrus and lotus capitals, adorned with hieroglyphics.
Valley of the Kings - Explore the Valley of the Kings, where Pharaohs concealed their mummies and treasures in this arid desert area. Many treasures were discovered in these beautifully colored tombs. You can visit three tombs to admire the colors and murals on the walls. The tombs were carved deep into the mountain rock; you have the option to visit other royal tombs such as Tutankhamun’s.
Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon are two monumental statues representing King Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt. They are located west of modern Luxor and face east towards the Nile River. The statues depict the seated king on a throne with carvings of his mother, his wife, the god Hapi, the Nile god, and other symbolic engravings. Both are carved from single blocks of sandstone, and the name refers to the Greek hero Memnon who fell in the Trojan War.
Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Queen Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh in ancient Egypt, ruling the kingdom for 20 prosperous years. This temple is called El Deir el Bahari as early Christians used the Northern monastery, as it was a Coptic monastery. Unlike other temples, this one was built of limestone and partly hewn into the mother bedrock. It features three terraces and focuses on telling the story of the Divine birth of the Queen. Afterward, you will be transferred by a private air-conditioned bus to Luxor Airport for a flight to Cairo. Upon arrival, transfer to your five-star hotel in Cairo for an overnight stay.
