Pyramids of Giza - Depending on your selected start time, our tour guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel in Giza or Cairo, holding a sign with your name, to begin your tour of:
Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx: Here, you’ll encounter Cairo’s most significant attraction, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Great Pyramid dates back to the Old Kingdom (2580-2560 B.C.).
The Great Pyramid of King Cheops, also known as Khufu: This is the oldest and largest pyramid on the Giza Plateau and the last remaining of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built during the Old Kingdom’s 4th dynasty, it stands about 147 meters high.
Next, you’ll see the Pyramid of Khafre, also known as King Chephren, who was the son of Khufu and the owner of the second pyramid. He ruled Egypt for 26 years. The Chephren Pyramid is the second tallest and second largest of the ancient Egyptian pyramids, constructed in 2570 B.C. His burial chamber was discovered in 1818 A.D. by Italian archaeologist Giovanni Battista.
Then, visit the Pyramid of Menkaure: This is the smallest of the three pyramids, constructed in 2510 B.C. during the 4th dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Made of limestone and red granite, the exact date of its construction is unknown due to the undefined reign of Menkaure, but it was likely completed in the 26th century B.C.
The final important stop is the Great Sphinx: Built by the owner of the second pyramid, Chephren, as a guardian (the Great Sphinx of Giza), it is a limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The face of the Sphinx is generally believed to represent Pharaoh Khafra.
Shopping tour: During your guided pyramids tour, you can also visit the Papyrus Museum, where a local guide will explain the significance of papyrus in ancient Egyptian culture. You’ll see beautiful paintings related to Egyptian history, such as the Final Judgment, the oldest calendar, and the Tree of Life. Next, visit the Bedouin family’s Perfume Palace to learn about aromatic substances essential for the afterlife in ancient Egyptian mythology. The lotus flower essence was believed to aid in resurrection, and ancient cosmetic papyrus mentions various essences like jasmine, rose, cardamom, and almond. They also have medicinal essences. You have two options: visit the Flower Cotton shop to see high-quality Egyptian cotton products and gifts, or explore the Bazaar, where you can find small alabaster statues, sphinxes, and silver and gold items, including personalized items with your name in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
- Pyramids of Dahshour - Dahshur: This royal necropolis of the Old Kingdom is about 40 km south of Cairo. It features two famous pyramids, among the oldest, finest, and best-preserved in Egypt. The first is the Red Pyramid, where you can enter the burial chamber without extra charge. Then, visit the Bent Pyramid, known for its unique design with two angles, one at the bottom and another midway. This pyramid has the best-preserved outer casing of any pyramid in Egypt, but entry is not allowed for safety reasons.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Sakkara: This vast ancient burial ground served as the necropolis for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Here, you can see the first step pyramid, constructed in 2670 B.C. during the Old Kingdom’s 3rd dynasty. Built by the architect Imhotep, who was also a doctor to King Zoser, it is the oldest complete stone building complex known in history. You will also see tombs, such as the Tomb of Idut, daughter of King Teti, the first king of the 6th dynasty, with walls decorated with beautiful inscriptions depicting scenes of everyday life, including fishing, farming, hunting, and tax payment.
Memphis: This is the oldest capital of Egypt, founded by Pharaoh Menes.
