- Pyramids of Giza - Begin your full-day tour with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a knowledgeable tour guide. Visit the iconic Giza Pyramids, including the Great Sphinx, which have been renowned tourist attractions since Roman times. These magnificent structures served as the final resting places for kings of the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC). The Great Pyramid of Giza, built for King Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), is the oldest and largest, with the other two constructed for Khafre and Menkaure, his son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid remained the tallest structure for 3,800 years!
While the three pyramids dominate the landscape, they are surrounded by numerous other monuments. Each king’s pyramid was part of a larger complex, with the pyramid being the most significant element.
- Great Sphinx - Colossal statues are a hallmark of ancient Egyptian civilization, and the Great Sphinx of Giza is the most renowned. Carved directly from bedrock during the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC), it is the oldest known sphinx. These statues depicted the king with a lion’s body, symbolizing power.
Evidence suggests the Great Sphinx was carved during Khafre’s reign (known as Khefren to the ancient Greeks; c.2558–2532 BC), the builder of the second Giza pyramid. The Great Sphinx and its temple, the Sphinx Temple, are adjacent to Khafre’s valley temple and the lower causeway leading to his mortuary temple and pyramid. Archaeological analysis indicates the valley temple was completed before work began on the Great Sphinx and its temple. The Sphinx’s facial features closely resemble those of Khafre’s statues.
- Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Next, transfer to Saqqara, located 40 km southwest of Cairo. Saqqara is a significant cemetery of Memphis, one of ancient Egypt’s most important cities. The site’s name likely derives from Sokar, the god of this necropolis.
Saqqara is an open-air museum showcasing all of ancient Egyptian history. Kings and noblemen from the first two dynasties (c.3040–2686 BC) were buried here, including the Step Pyramid of Djoser (c.2686–2667 BC).
The pyramids of key Old Kingdom Fifth (c.2494–2345 BC) and Sixth (c.2345–2181 BC) Dynasty kings are in Saqqara. The pyramid of Unas (also known as Wenis; c.2375–2345 BC) features the oldest pyramid burial chamber with texts, known as Pyramid Texts, intended to protect the deceased king on his journey to the afterlife.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis (Arabic: مَنْف, romanized: Manf, pronounced [mænf]; Bohairic Coptic: ⲙⲉⲙϥⲓ; Greek: Μέμφις), or Men-nefer, was the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt known as mḥw (“North”). Its ruins are near the modern village of Mit Rahina (Arabic: ميت رهينة), in Badrashin, Giza, Egypt. The modern name likely derives from the late Ancient Egyptian name for Memphis, mjt-rhnt, meaning “Road of the Ram-Headed Sphinxes”.
Alongside the pyramid fields extending over 30 kilometers (19 mi) on its west, including the famous Pyramids of Giza, they are part of the World Heritage Site Memphis and its Necropolis. The site is open to the public as an open-air museum. Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, is home to the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx, dating back to 3100 B.C.
At the end of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
- Gizeh Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is approximately 60 meters above sea level.

It is the smallest Old Kingdom pyramid but is significant due to the discovery of Pyramid Texts, spells for the king’s afterlife inscribed into the walls of its subterranean chambers. First inscribed in Unas’s pyramid, the tradition of funerary texts continued in the pyramids of subsequent rulers, through to the end of the Old Kingdom, and into the Middle Kingdom with the Coffin Texts that form the basis of the Book of the Dead.
