Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx of Giza, often simply called the Sphinx, is a limestone statue depicting a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a lion’s body and a human head. It faces directly from west to east and is located on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is widely believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre.
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Saqqara is among several notable necropolis sites near Cairo, offering remarkable sights and significant archaeological importance. Saqqara may even intrigue archaeologists more than Giza. This vast site contains burials dating from before the Old Kingdom through the Greek Period of Egyptian history.
The most renowned structure at Saqqara is Djoser’s Step Pyramid. Dating back to the 3rd dynasty (2667—2448 BC), it was the first all-stone complex ever constructed on earth. It also showcases a crucial architectural innovation for the construction of the Giza Pyramids and other later pyramids in the 4th dynasty and beyond.
City Tour Covering All the Highlights
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Meet the guide who will lead you to the Egyptian Museum, commonly known as the Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt. It houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities, with 120,000 items, a portion of which is on display, while the rest are in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction company Garozzo-Zaffarani, following a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the building is one of the largest museums in the region.
Mosque of Muhammad Ali - Located in the Citadel of Cairo, Egypt, this mosque was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Perched atop the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest constructed in the first half of the 19th century, is distinguished by its animated silhouette and twin minarets, making it the most prominent mosque in Cairo.
The mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali’s eldest son, who passed away in 1816.
This mosque, along with the citadel, is a landmark and tourist attraction in Cairo and is one of the first features visible when approaching the city from any direction.
