-
Great Sphinx - Next, visit the Great Sphinx, dating back to the time of Chephren. This limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature with a human head and lion’s body, faces west to east on the Giza Plateau by the Nile in Giza, Egypt. The Sphinx’s face is thought to represent Pharaoh Khafre.
-
Giza Necropolis - The tour also includes a visit to the Valley Temple, associated with the pyramid of Chephren. The Valley Temple of Khafre in Giza is attributed to King Khafre of the 4th Dynasty.
-
Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - After lunch at a local restaurant, head to Coptic Cairo to visit the Hanging Church. Named for its location above a gatehouse of the Babylon Fortress, this church was likely built during the patriarchate of Isaac (690–692).
-
Church of St. Barbara - Then visit the Ben Ezra Synagogue and the Church of St. Barbara. Located north of the Coptic Museum and east of the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Abu Serga) on the eastern side of Fort Babylon, it was originally dedicated to Abu Kir and Yohanna (Ss. Cyrus and John). A separate sanctuary was built when St. Barbara’s remains were brought here.
-
Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus - Next, visit the Church of Abu Serga. The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus is traditionally believed to be built on the spot where the Holy Family—Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus—rested at the end of their journey into Egypt. They may have lived here while Joseph worked at the fortress.
-
Khan Al-Khalili - Continue to Islamic Cairo to explore Khan El Khalili, Cairo’s old bazaar. Shops here are famous for fine brassware, copper, perfumes, leather, silver, gold, antiques, and more. Later, you will be transferred back to Cairo International Airport.
