Pyramids of Giza - Begin your journey with a pick-up from your chosen location by a GEM Explore Egyptologist, who will guide you through Cairo to the magnificent Pyramids of Giza. Here, you will marvel at the pyramids of King Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos. The tour continues with a visit to the Valley Temple of Khafre, where the royal body of Khafre was received. This temple was constructed for the mummification process of King Khafre. Finally, enjoy a close-up view of the Great Sphinx, the guardian of the pyramids, featuring a lion’s body and the head of King Khafre. (Please note that entering the pyramids requires a special ticket, and the guide will gladly assist.)
Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The pyramid of Khufu is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world and was the tallest building on Earth for over 3,800 years. The complex includes a valley temple, currently buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Although the site has not been fully excavated, diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered. With your expert Egyptologist, you will explore the entire area.
Khafre’s Pyramid - The second tallest pyramid in the complex is dedicated to King Chefren or Khafre. The entire complex remains in good condition, allowing you to explore the valley temple and the causeway of King Khafre with your Egyptologist. (Please note that entering the pyramids requires a special ticket, and the guide will be happy to assist.)
Menkaure Pyramid - The smallest pyramid on the Giza plateau, Menkaure’s pyramid stands about 61 meters high. It is unique due to the granite outer layer that remains on the lower part of the pyramid, with the granite having been quarried from Aswan, over 1,000 kilometers away from Giza.
Panoramic View of the Pyramids - Next, visit a panoramic viewpoint of the six pyramids and the city of Giza, where you will spend 30 minutes taking photos and enjoying the view. This is also the perfect spot for an unforgettable short camel ride!
Great Sphinx - With the same entry ticket to the pyramids area, you will have a close-up view of the Great Sphinx, the guardian of the pyramids, with a lion’s body and the head of King Khafre. You will have ample time to take photos, with assistance from our guide, who are also expert photographers.
Saqqara - After lunch, embark on an amazing journey through the villages to Saqqara, one of Egypt’s most important archaeological sites. Here, you will see the oldest pyramid ever built and the surrounding tombs, with the possibility of entering some pyramids for free. (Please note that entering the Saqqara pyramid and the new southern tomb of King Zoser requires a special ticket.)
Step Pyramid of Djoser - The step pyramid of King Djoser, dating back to 2670 BC, is the oldest stone structure in the world. The pyramid is part of a vast complex, including the Colonnaded Entrance, Sed Festival complex, Enclosure wall, North and South Pavilions, Southern Tomb, and thousands of surrounding tombs. With your knowledgeable tour guide, you will learn more about King Djoser, his talented architect Imhotep, and the new discoveries in Saqqara. (Please note that entering the pyramid or the southern tomb requires a special ticket, and the guide will be happy to assist.)
Tomb of Idut - The Tomb of Idut (Idu) is located in the section of the Pyramid of Unas in the Necropolis of Saqqara. It is one of the most significant tombs at the site, belonging to a princess of the Royal Family who lived during the end of the Fifth Dynasty and the beginning of the Sixth Dynasty. The tomb is renowned for its beautiful, colorful scenes depicting offerings and daily life activities, such as fishing, scribes, a statue of the Princess being dragged on a sled, agricultural activities, papyrus harvest, livestock, and butchers.
Memphis and Saqqara - The tour continues with a visit to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. This city is home to the colossal statue of Ramses II, the great Alabaster Sphinx, and numerous ruins. Memphis was the center of power during the Old Kingdom (2686 BC) of Ancient Egypt and the residence of the pharaohs who built the pyramids.
Mit Rahina Museum - Visit the special museum housing the famous statue of King Ramesses the Great, dating back to 1279 BC. This enormous limestone statue is in excellent condition. Ramesses the Great ruled the Egyptian empire for about 67 years. This symmetrical statue is a must-see in Egypt and truly remarkable!
The Sphinx of Memphis - The Sphinx of Memphis is a stone sphinx located near the remains of Memphis, Egypt. Made from Egyptian Alabaster, it is in excellent condition and may represent the famous Queen Hatshepsut from 1479 BC. Afterward, you will begin your journey back to your hotel.
Day Tour to the Egyptian Museum, Cairo Citadel, Coptic Cairo, and Bazaar
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - The next day, embark on another adventure in Cairo’s downtown. At 8 AM, you will be picked up from your chosen location by a GEM Explore Egyptologist to start your journey across Cairo to one of the world’s largest museums, the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities. This museum houses 120,000 ancient Egyptian artifacts, dating back up to 6,000 years, including the Tutankhamun exhibit, which features his golden mask and jewelry. The museum was built in 1901 and officially opened in 1902.
Cairo Citadel - The largest Islamic monument in the Middle East is the Saladin Citadel, also known as the Cairo Citadel. Dating back to the 11th century, it was built by the great warrior Saladin and his minister. The Citadel contains 13 fortified towers and 7 mosques and served as the seat of government and residence of its rulers for over 700 years. This is a great opportunity to learn about Egypt’s modern history. Then, visit one of the Islamic wonders, the Mohammed Ali Mosque.
Mosque of Muhammad Ali - The Mosque of Mohammed Ali Basha, or the Alabaster Mosque, is an Ottoman mosque with unique and tall minarets (86m). The domes inside are plated with gold, and the walls are made of alabaster both inside and out. The mosque was completed in 1848 AD.
Coptic Cairo - After a lunch break, continue your journey with your tour guide through Cairo to one of the most religious places, Coptic Cairo. This area, part of Old Cairo, includes the Babylon Fortress, Hanging Church, Greek Church of St. George, Saints Sergius and Bacchus, and many other Coptic churches. According to Christian tradition, the Holy Family stayed at the site of the Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church to avoid the Roman army. With your guide, you will learn more about Christianity in Egypt.
Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - Around Fort Babylon, Egyptian Christians built some of their oldest churches. This area, a pilgrimage destination for people of various religions worldwide, holds ruins of Roman fortifications. Over the Roman towers, one of the oldest churches, the Hanging Church, was built.
Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus - The tour continues with a visit to the Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, also known as the Cavern Church. It is traditionally believed to have been built on the spot where the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus Christ, rested at the end of their journey into Egypt. They may have lived here while Joseph worked at the fortress, making the Cavern Church one of the oldest churches in the world. The church holds significant historical importance and is where many patriarchs of the Coptic Church were elected.
Synagogue Ben Ezra - The tour continues with a visit to the Ben Ezra Synagogue, located in the Fustat part of Old Cairo, Egypt. According to local folklore, it is situated on the site where baby Moses was prayed for. This synagogue’s geniza, or storeroom, was discovered in the 19th century to contain a treasure of forgotten Hebrew, Aramaic, and Judeo-Arabic secular and sacred manuscripts.
Khan Al-Khalili - The tour continues with a visit to Khan El-Khalili Bazaar, located in Cairo’s historic center. Established as a trade center during the Mamluk era, the bazaar offers a variety of products in all shapes and forms, including silver, copper, brassware, gold, and leather goods.
Al-Hussein Mosque - Nearby Khan El-Khalili is one of Egypt’s most sacred Islamic sites, the Al-Hussein Mosque, reputed to be the burial place of the head of Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed. The mosque has been recently renovated, providing an opportunity to take beautiful photos. Afterward, you will begin your journey back to your hotel.
