Explore the artist’s delightful pink house, where a warm family atmosphere prevailed. Discover Monet’s daily life surrounded by eight children: the drawing room, pantry, bedroom, study, dining room, and the exquisite kitchen. Admire his collection of Japanese prints, another source of inspiration.
The Studio
Conclude your visit in the large studio where the renowned water-lily paintings were created. These masterpieces are displayed at the Orangerie Museum in Paris.
- Giverny - Giverny is a charming, quintessential Norman village by the Seine. Located on the north bank of Normandy’s grandest river, near Vernon, it might have remained a quiet provincial spot if not for the arrival of Impressionist master Claude Monet in 1883. Monet’s long residence transformed it into an artistic pilgrimage site, even during his lifetime.
- Palace of Versailles - The Palace of Versailles, or “Château de Versailles” in French, ranks among the world’s largest castles. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it represents one of the finest achievements of French art in the 17th century. Originally a hunting lodge for Louis XIII, it was expanded by his son Louis XIV, who established his court and government there in 1682. Until the French Revolution, successive kings embellished the palace, making it a must-see French landmark.
Explore the Palace, admire its stunning architecture, and its magnificent rooms like the King and Queen’s apartments, numerous living rooms with their stories, and the breathtaking Hall of Mirrors, designed to impress with its 357 mirrors, marble and bronze decorations, and gilded bronze sculptures. The visit concludes with an introduction to the Versailles Gardens.
With skip-the-line access, the guide invites you to explore the Royal Apartments.
Royal Apartments - King and Queen’s Royal Quarters
These grand apartments hosted the sovereign’s official acts. They feature opulent Italian-style decor, with marble paneling and painted ceilings. Open to all, anyone could see the king and royal family. Under Louis XIV’s reign, evening events were held here several times a week.
Overlooking the Midi parterre, the Queen’s Grand Apartment mirrors the King’s Royal Quarter. Unlike Louis XIV, who abandoned his Royal Apartments, the Queen continued to use hers, leading to several decor changes in the 18th century.
The Hall of Mirrors
Designed by Mansart in 1678, the Hall of Mirrors is a monumental 8072-square-foot room celebrating France’s wealth and expertise. Spanning about 239.5 feet, it highlights France’s political, economic, and artistic triumphs. Le Brun’s paintings depict Louis XIV’s glorious history: military victories, diplomatic achievements, and kingdom reforms. The 357 mirrors, a technological marvel and symbol of luxury, showcased France’s prosperity. Its design offers a dynamic display where garden lights and colors are reflected, creating a magical experience.
The Gardens of Versailles
Our expert tour guide will show you the best parts of the Gardens.
In 1661, Louis XIV commissioned André Le Nôtre to create the Versailles gardens. This monumental task took about forty years, involving leveling spaces, landscaping garden beds, and creating ponds and the Canal. Louis XIV valued the gardens as much as the palace. Le Nôtre crafted the ultimate French-style garden: a terrace with a panoramic view, a geometric layout of axes, ponds, flowerbeds, and groves. The garden is structured like a building, offering a walk that plays with perspectives. Charles Le Brun designed numerous statues and fountains. With 221 sculptures, Versailles is the world’s largest open-air sculpture museum. Fountains and groves embellish the gardens, which regularly hosted the King’s walks and court entertainment. Enjoy a stroll through Le Nôtre’s gardens.
Each summer, Versailles hosts spectacular garden events, allowing visitors to experience the grandeur of Louis XIV’s garden celebrations. Your guide will offer a tour of the musical gardens (Tuesdays from June to October) and the musical fountains show (Saturdays and Sundays from April to October).
