Fondation Claude Monet - Monet made Giverny his home in 1883. He tirelessly transformed a neglected estate into a floral masterpiece, which inspired many of his greatest artworks. Monet was not only a painter of his own garden but also an artist who traveled extensively for his work. Yet, he was never truly far from his beloved garden.
The garden features a flower garden in front of the house and the famous water gardens across the road. Monet began developing the water gardens about a decade after moving to Giverny. Initially, locals opposed his plans, fearing the exotic plants would contaminate the tributary feeding the ponds. The flower gardens span about a hectare and are arranged in color-themed borders, boasting thousands of flowers including tulips, irises, oriental poppies, and peonies, all in the stunning colors that inspired Monet’s paintings.
The water gardens have a Japanese influence and include a replica of the Japanese bridge featured in Monet’s renowned painting. Besides the gardens, you can also visit Monet’s charming and vividly colorful house.

Worth the Trip out of Paris! - We did it! We decided to not go on a tour, but instead to take train. The recommendations & tips people shared on the Forum section were spot on! We took an Uber to Saint-Lazare Train Station, went to counter on far right side of station to buy round trip tickets. Once we got to Vernon, the shuttle bus to Giverny was waiting. They time their shuttle trips around trains arrivals/departures. You can buy round trip shuttle tickets for 10€ on the bus. If you buy tickets in advance you go in group tours entrance (no line). The Gardens were absolutely stunning. I realize the Lilly ponds are famous, but the flowers were gorgeous. We went through house & they had a great store. We also enjoyed a lovely lunch at a restaurant right outside the Gardens. Only drawback is the day we went it was raining so we didn’t explore all of the property. Highly recommend you visit on your own, super easy.

Delightful - I thought this might be trite or run down or simply not worth it. I was wrong. It was beautiful and wonderful and enlightening. I will say that it is crowded and the gift shop is large and as expected. It is however well done and many people seemed quite taken by all the things to buy. I simply adored the gardens and my photos looked like Monet's Garden! If you have bought your tickets online, do not wait in the ticket line. They did not make this clear and I waited a bit, then asked and they let me right in using the ticket on my phone.

Take a guided tour from Paris - Don’t take the train, pickpockets and rip off people at the train exit...take a guided tour to a Givermy from the Orsay museum. There is a car there with Givermy signs with licensed guides.

Unsuccessful - I did not receive my train ticket or my voucher for the Monet Gardens. I had to pay again and will be requesting a refund
