The tour begins with a pick-up from Nairobi Airport or your Nairobi Hotel. The first stop is the Giraffe Center, the headquarters of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, renowned for “Daisy Rothschild,” a giraffe calf rescued from Soi, near the Western Kenya border. Daisy and her family are part of a herd of these gentle giants living in a semi-wild state at Giraffe Manor. Visitors will learn about their behaviors, traits, and receive conservation education. These animals approach a protective wall to be fed.
Next, the tour proceeds to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. From 11 am to 12 pm, visitors can walk through the center, which is surrounded by a rope fence. The youngest elephants emerge from the bush to greet their keepers, who are ready with large bottles of milk. For the next 10-15 minutes, visitors can watch each elephant drink their milk. After feeding, the elephants play with water and interact with their keepers, providing opportunities for photos. Visitors learn about the elephants’ ages, rescue stories, and the challenges they faced, such as poaching, falling into wells, and human-wildlife conflict. Once the youngest are fed, they return to the bush, and the 2-3-year-olds take their turn. Some can feed themselves, while others are still assisted by their keepers. It’s delightful to watch them hold their milk bottles with their trunks and enjoy their milk.
Finally, you will be dropped off back at the Airport or your Nairobi Hotel.
