This walking tour will explore the key historical areas in the heart of Gijón, tracing the city’s development from its beginnings to today. The journey begins near the Revillagigedo Palace, leading into Cimadevilla, the historic fishing district. Here, participants will reflect on Roman Gijón by the ancient wall, medieval Gijón in front of the Casa Natal de Jovellanos, and the city’s everyday life in spots like Plaza del Lavaderu. Upon leaving Cimadevilla, the tour will discuss the fishing heritage at the Transit of the Whales. If time allows, there will be an ascent to the Praise of the Horizon, Eduardo Chillida’s monumental sculpture on Santa Catalina hill. The tour will then descend to the beach area, passing the Roman Baths of Campo Valdes, and conclude at Plaza Mayor, where the guide will suggest some streets and neighborhoods perfect for enjoying tapas, cider, and local cuisine.
