- St. Michael’s Cave - Among the 150 caves discovered in the Rock of Gibraltar, St. Michael’s Cave is the most frequented, attracting over a million visitors annually. The cave is located more than 300 meters above sea level. In 1942, during World War II, blasting was conducted inside the cave to enhance ventilation, as it was intended to serve as an emergency hospital. This process led to the discovery of a deeper cave system, now known as Lower St. Michael’s Cave. In 2021, St. Michael’s Cave introduced “The Awakening,” a new lighting upgrade that enhances the cave’s natural beauty. Experience St. Michael’s Cave like never before with this immersive light and sound installation that reveals layers of history intertwined with the rock. The ancient cavern, once dormant, is now illuminated, bringing to life sculptures older than time and unveiling their hidden stories.
- Skywalk - Positioned 340 meters above sea level, the Skywalk stands taller than London’s The Shard. Gibraltar’s Skywalk offers breathtaking 360º views that encompass three countries and two continents. Mark Hamill, known for his role as Luke Skywalker, officially inaugurated The Skywalk in 2018.
- Barbary macaque feeding station - At the summit of the Rock, visitors can enjoy stunning 360-degree views of Gibraltar. Here, they can interact with the famous monkeys at Upper Apes Den, located at the same elevation as the cable car. The Barbary Macaque Apes are unique to Europe and reside in Gibraltar’s Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Currently, there are over 200 apes in nine groups roaming the upper rock. Legend has it that in 1942, the ape population dwindled to just seven, prompting British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill to order their immediate replenishment, as the presence of Barbary Macaques on the Rock of Gibraltar is believed to ensure British rule.
- The Great Siege Tunnels - These tunnels are a major attraction of the Rock of Gibraltar. They were manually carved out of the rock during the Great Siege from 1779 to 1783 to defend Gibraltar against Spanish and French forces attempting to reclaim it from the British. During the tunneling, a horizontal hole was blasted in the rock face to improve ventilation for the workers. Upon further inspection, it was realized that a gun could be installed to target attacking forces.
- Willis’s Road - The World War II Tunnels were constructed by the Royal Engineers in the 1940s as Britain faced war with Germany and Italy. With Gibraltar surrounded by enemies and an attack likely, Winston Churchill and British military leaders decided to build an extensive network of tunnels, creating a fortress within a fortress, a city within a city. In May 2005, the World War II Tunnels were opened to the public, allowing visitors to follow in the footsteps of Churchill, Sikorski, and De Gaulle, and explore this remarkable testament to the soldiers and civilians who labored within the Rock during the war’s darkest days.
- Gibraltar Botanic Gardens - The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens, also known as La Alameda Gardens, are a botanical garden in Gibraltar, covering approximately 6 hectares (15 acres). In 1816, the gardens were commissioned by British Governor General George Don to provide soldiers stationed in the fortress with a pleasant recreational area and to offer residents a place to enjoy the fresh air, shielded from the sun’s intense heat.
- Charles V Wall - The Charles V Wall is a 16th-century defensive curtain wall that is part of the fortifications of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory.
- Trafalgar Cemetery - The Trafalgar Cemetery is located in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. Formerly known as the Southport Ditch Cemetery, it occupies a small area just south of the city walls, in what was once a defensive ditch during Spanish rule.
- The Rock of Gibraltar - The Rock of Gibraltar is a monolithic limestone promontory in the British territory of Gibraltar, near the southwestern tip of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It stands 426 meters high, with most of its upper area covered by a nature reserve that is home to approximately 300 Barbary macaques.
- Upper Rock Nature Reserve - The Gibraltar Nature Reserve is a protected area in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar, covering over 40% of the country’s land. Established as the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in 1993 under the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s category Ia, it was last expanded in 2013.
- Gibraltar Town - Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and headland on Spain’s southern coast. Dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426-meter-high limestone ridge, it was first settled by the Moors in the Middle Ages and later ruled by Spain. The outpost was ceded to the British in 1713. Its fortifications include remnants of a 14th-century Moorish Castle and the 18th-century Great Siege Tunnels, which were expanded during World War II.
