Drive to Jhinu Danda Suspension Bridge | Trek to Chhomrong
Chhomrong - Situated at 2,150 meters, Chhomrong offers the closest views of Annapurna South (7,219m), Huinchuli (6,441m), and Mt. Fishtail. The journey begins with a scenic 3-hour drive near the Jhinu Danda Suspension Bridge, followed by a 3 to 4-hour trek to Chhomrong village. The drive is picturesque, ascending to the mountain saddle viewpoint of Naudanda and cruising along the lush mountainside with the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna in the distance. The road then descends into the Modi River valley. Entry into the Annapurna Conservation Area is at Nayapul. From here, a dirt road follows the Modi River upstream for about an hour to the trailhead near the Jhinu Danda Suspension Bridge. The trek starts with crossing a long and high suspension bridge, then climbs steeply to Chhomrong village via Jhinu Danda. Chhomrong is a large Gurung village with magnificent views of Annapurna South, Huinchuli, and Fishtail mountains.
Jhinu Danda - The Jhinu Danda Suspension Bridge is one of the longest, measuring 285 meters in length and hanging 135 meters above the Kimrong River. Jhinu Danda village also provides access to a natural hot spring on the bank of the Modi River.
Chhomrong to Dovan Trek - 6 hours / 9 km / 2,500 m
Annapurna Region - Enjoy the morning views of Annapurna South and Mt. Fishtail. The day’s trek involves ascending and descending the foothills of the Annapurna, eventually entering the Annapurna Sanctuary. From Chhomrong, descend the stone steps for about an hour to the Chhomrong River, then climb steeply for about two hours to Sinuwa village. The trail then enters the Rhododendron forest on the buttresses of Mt. Huinchuli. Descend to the Modi River basin and gradually climb to the small lodge settlement at Dovan. The total walking distance is about 9 km, taking approximately 6 to 7 hours.
Dovan to Deurali Trek - 5 hours / 8 km / 3,200 m
Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp - 5 hours / 7.8 km / 4,130 m
Annapurna Base Camp - The trek from Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp offers uninterrupted views of Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna III, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and many other peaks. Follow the Modi Khola upstream to its confluence with the glacier from Annapurna Base Camp. Machhapuchhre Base Camp is perched high above the confluence. From MBC, follow the valley on the left along the glacial moraine through the pastures. As the climb continues to ABC from MBC, Annapurna I (8,091 m) becomes visible along with Annapurna South and other spectacular peaks like Fluted Peaks, Tent Peaks, and more. Annapurna Base Camp is a beautiful valley surrounded by some of the most popular peaks in the Himalayas. Annapurna I was the first 8,000-meter peak climbed by humans. The sunset and sunrise create a stunning display over the snow peaks.
Trek Back to Sinuwa - 7 hours / 20 km / 2,340 m
Annapurna Base Camp - Capture the moments when the early rays of the sun illuminate the snow peaks in a 360-degree view. The magical color change of Annapurna I during sunrise is particularly popular. Spend a leisurely morning at Annapurna Base Camp before heading down. After acclimatizing at 4,100 meters, the descent becomes much easier. It takes about 7 hours to return to Sinuwa village.
Trek Back Down to Jhinu Danda Suspension Bridge - 4 hours and Drive Back to Pokhara - 3 hours
Annapurna Region - Returning to greenery and civilization feels refreshing and different after a few days in the deep valley and cold weather. Enjoy breakfast with a panoramic view of the hills and Modi River valley. The trail from Sinuwa descends on stone steps and then ascends on the other side to Chhomrong village. The trail then descends steeply to Jhinu Danda and further down to the roadhead, where private transport will be waiting to take you back to Pokhara. Your guide will drop you at your hotel in about 3 hours.
