- Elmina Castle - 09:00 HRS - Embark on a tour of Elmina township to explore historic sites, concluding at the renowned Ft. St. Georges Castle, constructed by the Portuguese in 1482. This UNESCO World Heritage site, standing for over 530 years, is the oldest European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. It is also one of the largest slave forts globally, having held numerous enslaved Africans who were transported across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World.
- Cape Coast Castle - 11:30 HRS - Proceed to visit the Cape Coast Castle, originally a Swedish lodge before being captured by the English and expanded in 1665. Explore the Smithsonian-mounted museum and the rest of the dungeon, which exited at “the door of no return.” Two slave remains, exhumed from Jamaica and the USA, were returned through this door and laid to rest an hour away at Assin Manso, transforming the name to “the door of return.” Discover the plaque installed and inaugurated by the 44th President of the USA, Barack Obama, and his wife Michelle Obama during their visit to Ghana in 2009.
