• Presbyterian Church of Ghana, La Bethel - Gather at the designated starting point and then travel by car to the local market to purchase all the necessary ingredients for preparing traditional dishes. By enrolling in a cooking class, participants are contributing to the community’s Wellness Community Center, which offers programs in physical activity, nutrition education, after-school lectures for children, health screenings, and art and dance activities. Upon returning from the market, enjoy sipping on locally crafted spirits (Emergency, Hatso, Uwuba), all made from akpeteshie and infused with local bark or tree leaves. Then, learn how to prepare fufu, banku, jiji, or rice balls while cooking the stew or soup of your choice: Okra soup, Groundnut soup, Palm-nut soup, Light soup, or Plain soup.

• Fufu and Palm Nut soup - Fufu (mashed cassava and plantains) palm nut soup is palm (from a tree) tomato, peppers, onion and then any meat or veggie you would like to add.
• Fufu and Ground nut soup - Fufu (mashed cassava and plantain) ground nut soup is tomato, ground nut, pepper, onion and any meat or veggies you would like to add
• Fufu and Light soup - Fufu (mashed cassava and plantain) with light soup (tomatoes, pepper, onions and different veggies or meat depending on what you decide.
• Banku with Pepper and fish - help crush up onion, peppers and tomatoes to dip the local fish in and eat with banku (mashed cassava and corn)
• Banku with Okra stew - Banku (mashed cassava and corn) with okra stew (okra, tomatoes, onions, egg, peppers and various fish)
• Waakye - Beans with rice, spaghetti, salad, gyri (from cassava) egg, avocado, fish or meat
• Rice balls with palm nut or ground nut soup - Rice balls and either palm nut or ground nut soup
• Jiji with ground nut, palm nut or light soup - Jiji (from cassava) and eaten with ground nut, palm nut or light soup.

We’ll commence our day at the local market where we’ll gather ingredients required to cook our traditional and savory meal. Witness market women balancing goods on their heads as they vend their wares. Following our market visit, we’ll head back to our bar and begin our cooking session. Here, you’ll understand how to ‘pound’ our staple dishes like Banku, Fufu, Jiji, or rice balls on an open fire. Subsequently, a stew or soup of your preference (diet-dependent) will be prepared. While cooking, savor an array of local spirits to give you a true taste of indigenous life, all while watching the hustle and bustle of the community and their interactions in our local Ga language. This experience will surely make you feel like a true Ghanaian.
