- Reclining Buddha Wat Chaiyamangalaram - Situated in the quiet residential area of Penang Island (LORONGBURMA), the Temple of the Reclining Buddha is a religious tourist attraction that Malaysian Buddhists frequently visit for worship. The temple houses the world’s third-largest indoor reclining Buddha, measuring 33 meters in length. Resting peacefully in the temple’s main hall, the reclining Buddha is adorned in a golden robe, lying on the right side with feet to the right, and gazing kindly at visitors entering the hall. Other Buddha statues and eighteen Arhat statues are also enshrined around the reclining Buddha, with some Thai monk statues covered in gold foil.
- Dharmikarama Burmese Temple - Since the early 19th century, a Burmese settlement has existed in Pulau Tikus. On 1 August 1803, a small temple named “Nandy Moloh Temple” was established in the area by the Burmese community on land donated by Nyonya Betong, who purchased it for $390 (Spanish dollar) from George Layton. The temple’s first abbot was U. Nandamala. From its early days, women devotees have been the temple’s main supporters, with four female trustees: Nyonya Betong, Nyonya Meerut, Nyonya Koloh, and Nyonya Bulan. As the Burmese community expanded, they later appealed to Queen Victoria for additional land to enlarge the temple and create burial grounds for the elders.
- Chew Jetty - Chew Jetty Penang is situated at Weld Quay, George Town, Penang, and is 21 kilometers from Lexis Suites Penang. It is the largest of the waterfront settlements in Georgetown and was part of the Clan Jetties Penang, located at the southern section of Weld Quay. The wooden piers, constructed by the Chinese, were divided among different surname-based clans such as “Lim,” “Tan,” “Lee,” “Yeoh,” and finally “Chew,” which became the most renowned. In recent years, Chew Jetty has also become a focal point for Chinese New Year celebrations in Penang.
