- Geneva - Discover the enchanting city of Geneva and its stunning Old Town, which is easily explored on foot. Visitors can admire the main monuments and landmarks that reflect a rich historical heritage, along with the influence of Calvin on the local mindset and lifestyle.
Stroll through the English Garden to see the renowned flower clock and a beautifully sculpted bronze water fountain. Ascend the long stairway passage to find yourself behind Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Geneva’s most famous landmark. This cathedral, originally constructed in a Romanesque style with Gothic elements, stands on the site of a 4th-century Roman Temple and was pivotal in the rise of Calvinist Protestantism in the 16th century. Today, it showcases a blend of architectural styles, captivating visitors worldwide.
After exploring the cathedral, head to the City Hall, featuring cannons from the 16th and 17th centuries. This building, with its cobblestone ramp, has been the venue for some of the city’s key diplomatic events.
Next, visit Place du Bourg-de-Four, which began as a Roman Forum and later became a medieval town square. The Palais de Justice, constructed here in 1707, has served as the court of law since 1860.
Continue your journey to Bastions Park to see the renowned Reformation Wall memorial. Erected in 1917 along a 16th-century rampart beneath the Old Town’s walls on the Promenade des Bastions, this 91-meter-long monument honors John Knox, Calvin, Théodore de Bèze, and Guillaume Farel—the four Genevese reformers.
Conclude the tour at Place de Neuve, a significant landmark known as Geneva’s cultural hub. Here, visitors can admire the impressive Grand Theatre, originally built in 1879 and renovated after a fire in 1951, along with the Conservatoire de Musique and the Musée Rath.
