A step away from the tartan tat - An original and unique experience especially for us as we were joined by an elderly man who worked in the bunker during the 1950s. You get to walk through real history, nothing mocked up or faked, a lot of rooms are still sitting as they were left decades ago. Take a coat especially if you go in winter, it's not warm!

Fascinating deep-dive in to Cold War History in Edinburgh - If you’re looking for unique things to do in Edinburgh that are off the beaten path, Barnton Bunker is an absolute must-visit. We visited over the Christmas break and were blown away. Our guide, Geoff, was phenomenal, his passion for the site really brought the history to life. It’s fascinating to hear how the site evolved from a Cold War nuclear bunker and a secret BBC media centre to an underground venue for illegal raves. Because the team is still actively renovating the site, you feel like you’re getting an exclusive, "behind-the-scenes" look at a piece of Scottish history. It felt like we were really in on a secret! We stayed around an hour, but we could have stayed lnger just asking questions. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in Edinburgh’s hidden history or military heritage. Or anyone really! Such a different afternoon. Access was so easy, we drove there and parking was included in the ticket at that time.

Interesting step back in time - We went on the 10.30am tour with Loga, which was excellent. He was a great story teller and clearly passionate about the bunker and the period of the cold war. The bunker has only recently started opening for tours after many years of "making it safe", so there isn't much in term of exhibitions / film / photos yet. That doesn't detract from this being a really interesting and unique experience, seeing this vast underground piece of history I've just being driving past completely obviously for the last years! We'll definitely be returning in a few years to see what further great work the team has done. In the meantime, if you haven't been before - would definitely recommend a visit!

Well worth doing - A fascinating insight into a relatively recent period of history and some of the thinking and preparations that went into supposedly keeping the country equipped to survive a nuclear attack. Well done to the group of people who are restoring the installation and the Logan, our guide on the day.

Really interesting - work in progress - Very much enjoyed our tour. The guide was brilliant and had loads of extra facts to offer. The bunker is a work in progress. A volunteer group is raising money to refurbish it and kit it out. What you see are empty rooms but the guide paints the picture. There are very few artefacts at the minute. The bunker has been vandalised over the years. Parking was tricky; there’s a small public car park.
