The monastery is best known for its two-storey Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) Church, which provides access to the second floor via a narrow stone staircase jutting out from the building’s face.

It was opened in 1986 adjacent to the Tsaghkadzor Olympic Sports Complex.
Monastery Sevanavank - Sevanavank is a monastic complex located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, not far from the town of Sevan. Initially, the monastery was built at the southern shore of a small island. After the artificial draining of Lake Sevan, which started in the era of Joseph Stalin, the water level fell about 20 meters, and the island transformed into a peninsula. At the southern shore of this newly created peninsula, a guesthouse of the Writers Union of Armenia was built. The eastern shore is occupied by the Armenian president’s summer residence, while the monastery’s still active seminary moved to newly constructed buildings at the northern shore of the peninsula.

Haghartsin Monastery - Haghartsin is a medieval monastery located near the town of Dilijan in the Tavush Province of Armenia. It was built between the 10th and 13th centuries. It is composed of three churches: St. Gregory’s (the oldest one), St. Stephen’s, and St. Astvatsatsin (St. Mary’s, the largest one), as well as a gavit and a refectory.
Haghpat, Sanahin, Debed River Gorge
Haghpat Monastery - Haghpat Monastery, also known as Haghpatavank, is a medieval Armenian monastery complex in Haghpat, Armenia, built between the 10th and 13th century. The location of Haghpat Monastery was chosen so that it overlooks the Debed River in northern Armenia’s Lori region. It was built partway up a hillside on a site chosen to afford protection and concealment, but also because of the monks’ monastic humility. It is built on a leafy promontory in the middle of a cloudy cirque. The monastery is not isolated and is surrounded by many hamlets.
Monastery of Sanahin - Sanahin Monastery is an Armenian monastery founded in the 10th century in Sanahin in the Lori Province of Armenia. The name Sanahin literally translates from Armenian as ‘this one is older than that one’, presumably representing a claim to being an older monastery than the neighboring Haghpat Monastery, located about 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) to the east, with which it forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The two villages and their monasteries are similar in many ways, and lie in plain view of each other on a dissected plateau formation, separated by a deep crack formed by a small river flowing into the Debed river.
