- John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial - Eyre Square, in the heart of Galway City, is officially known as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. The square has a rich history dating back to medieval times when markets took place on the green in front of the town gates. A memorial of the US President Kennedy, who was made a Freeman of the city, marks the spot where he made a speech to approximately 100,000 Galway people in 1963, on his last trip before his assassination.

Excellent time spent - Learned alot about the historical sites and the Clauddaugh ring! The wall in the mall was amazing. We visited one of the recommended pubs for traditional Tradd music.

Experienced walking tour - Took a private walking tour of Galway with our guide Arthur.Arthur is a life long Galway man and has spent almost all of his 72 years running his shop in Galway ! He retired recently and now his vast knowledge is available to anyone who wants to take his tour. His tour is lively and informative and he adds a great local touch to it. Even though he is 72 you may be challenged to keep up with him! Lots of local insights and be prepared to stop a few times as he seems to know everyone on the street!

The weather didn’t... - The weather didn’t cooperate but Arthur was a true champ. We had a wonderful time learning about the history of Galway, getting the low down on numerous noteworthy landmarks and hearing about Arthur’s own experience growing up in the area. He loves this corner of the world and boy does it show. Despite the (not unexpected) wet and dreary day, we had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour to all Galway first timers.

Excellent guide - Arthur was an excellent guide as being a lifelong Galway resident. We learned and saw so much with him. I would definitely recommend him to anyone planning a personal tour. He was able to answer all our questions and had some great stories. It made us look at the details on buildings to figure out what time period they were built or who the residents were that built it originally.
